Position Summary The SAGD Drilling Supervisor acts as the Company Representative at the rig site and is responsible for the secure, efficient and cost-effective execution of SAGD drilling operations.

The Drilling Supervisor provides direct oversight of the drilling contractor and third-party service companies during the assigned 12-hour tour, ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with the approved drilling program, directional plan, company standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Key responsibilities include drilling operations, SAGD well placement, safety, contractor coordination, NPT management, daily operational reporting, WellView reporting and PetroSight well-cost tracking.

1. 12-Hour Tour Responsibilities The Drilling Supervisor shall:

- Conduct a detailed handover with the off-tour Drilling Supervisor.
- Review current well status, hole condition, BHA, drilling parameters, mud properties and outstanding operational issues.
- Review upcoming operations and ensure required personnel, equipment and materials are available.
- Provide operational direction to the drilling contractor and service companies.
- Monitor drilling performance and identify developing operational problems.
- Participate in pre-job safety meetings and ensure critical operations are properly planned.
- Escalate significant program deviations, technical risks, safety concerns and cost impacts as required.
- Maintain accurate tour notes and provide a complete handover to the incoming supervisor.
- Maintain awareness of current operations and the next 12–24 hours of planned activities.

2. SAGD Drilling Operations

Supervise all drilling and well-construction activities, including:

- Top-hole, build, tangent, landing and horizontal drilling.
- SAGD producer and injector wells.
- Infill wells, sidetracks and re-entry operations.
- BHA trips, reaming, backreaming and hole conditioning.
- Casing and liner running.
- Cementing and wellhead operations.
- Logging, fishing and recovery operations.
- Well suspension and rig-release activitiesMonitor drilling parameters, hole condition, mud properties, hole cleaning and overall drilling performance to identify and address developing problems before they result in NPT.

3. Directional Drilling & SAGD Well Placement The Drilling Supervisor shall work closely with the Directional Driller, MWD/GWD/ranging personnel, Geology and the office drilling team to ensure the well is drilled in accordance with the approved directional plan and geological target.

Responsibilities include

- Monitor well trajectory, inclination, azimuth, TVD, dogleg severity and directional trends.
- Monitor SAGD producer/injector separation and GWD/MGT ranging results where applicable.
- Review directional performance and significant trajectory corrections.
- Identify questionable surveys,



ranging results or unexpected trajectory changes and ensure they are reviewed before significant directional decisions are made.
- Monitor anti-collision requirements and escalate concerns when approaching established limits.

The objective is to achieve the required SAGD well placement while maintaining a smooth, drillable and completion-compatible wellbore trajectory.

4. Drilling Fluids & Hole Condition The Drilling Supervisor shall:

- Review mud properties and treatments.
- Monitor returns, cuttings condition, losses/gains and hole cleaning.
- Identify signs of tight hole, pack-off, clay accretion, BHA/bit balling or stuck-pipe risk.
- Ensure appropriate circulation and hole-conditioning practices are followed.
- Coordinate significant drilling-fluid changes with the Mud Engineer and office drilling team.

5. Well Control & Safety The Drilling Supervisor shall:

- Ensure required well-control equipment is installed, tested and certified.
- Review BOP and pressure-test documentation.
- Monitor pit volumes, flow and well conditions.
- Participate in well-control drills and critical-operation safety meetings.
- Ensure JSAs and hazard assessments are completed as required.
- Stop or suspend operations where unsafe conditions exist.
- Ensure incidents and near misses are properly reported and documented.

6. NPT & Operational Problem Management The Drilling Supervisor shall actively identify, minimize and accurately document NPT, including:

- Stuck pipe and fishing.
- Lost circulation.
- Equipment or rig failures.
- Directional/MWD/GWD failures.
- Hole-conditioning problems.
- Sidetracks.
- Cementing issues.
- Waiting on services/materials.
- Weather and access delays.

Significant events shall clearly document the event, cause, actions taken, time lost, recovery plan and lessons learned.

7. WellView Reporting The Drilling Supervisor is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely WellView daily drilling reporting, including:

- Daily and tour drilling activities.
- Current well depth and operational status.
- BHA and bit information.
- Directional drilling and well-placement activities.
- Casing, liner and cementing operations.
- Drilling-fluid information.
- NPT and operational problems.
- Safety and significant operational events.
- Well milestones and other required drilling information.

WellView entries shall accurately reflect actual field operations and be reviewed for completeness and accuracy before submission.

8. PetroSight – Well Cost Tracking The Drilling Supervisor shall use PetroSight for daily well-cost tracking and ensure field costs are captured accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities include

- Enter and/or review daily drilling costs.
- Track actual well costs against the approved well budget/AFE.




- Ensure costs are assigned to the appropriate well and cost category.
- Capture drilling contractor and third-party service costs based on daily field activities.
- Identify significant cost variances or unusual charges for follow-up.
- Maintain accurate daily cost information to support well-cost forecasting and final well-cost reconciliation.

PetroSight is primarily used by the Drilling Supervisor for well-cost tracking and cost control.

9. Daily Reporting & Communication The Drilling Supervisor shall provide an accurate daily operational update covering:

- Current depth and operation.
- Previous 24-hour activities.
- Drilling and directional performance.
- NPT and operational issues.
- Safety concerns.
- Current risks.
- Planned operations for the next 24 hours.
- Required office support or decisions.

The supervisor shall maintain effective communication with the Drilling Superintendent/Drilling Engineer and promptly communicate significant operational, safety, well-placement or cost concerns.

10. Contractor & Service Company Management The Drilling Supervisor shall:

- Provide clear operational direction to the drilling contractor and service companies.
- Coordinate activities between the drilling contractor, Directional Drilling/MWD/GWD, drilling fluids, cementing, casing/liner, wellhead, solids control, logging, fishing and other service providers.
- Ensure personnel, equipment and materials are available for upcoming operations.
- Monitor contractor and service-company performance.
- Address operational, performance and safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain effective communication between field personnel and the office drilling team.

Qualifications:

- Experience in SAGD or Thermal Drilling operations is required; additional experience in HPHT is preferred
- High degree of initiative and independent judgment
- Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines
- Good computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, drilling data information systems
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively within a multi-functional, integrated team
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and team-focused skills;
- Ability to deliver desired results safely, on time, and on budget, while maintaining or enhancing relationships;
- Working from the field is required.
