Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for transactional accounting activities, which include fixed assets, deferred revenue, Budget, A/P, A/R, and payroll. You will also liaise with outside auditors, report on monthly operating results, prepare monthly financial package, assist with forecasting, monitor and assess internal controls, coordinate month end close, assist with Income Tax & commodity tax compliance and reporting and other duties as required.
Main Duties:
- Process journal entries, which are results of daily/weekly/monthly transactions
- Reconcile monthly bank accounts, month-end close, balance sheet accounts and following up on any outstanding items.
- Variance analysis
- Prepare lead sheets for financial statements.
- Respond to audits and other financial queries from external auditors and government representatives.
- Provide accounting and reporting support for construction projects.
- Prepare monthly capital cost schedules.
- AR sub-ledger and following up with clients on outstanding invoices.
- Responsible for reconciliation of trust accounts and accrued expenses.
- Knowledge of budget preparation, fiscal internal controls, preparation of financial reports/submissions and monitoring of revenues/expenditures
- Facilitate budgeting, audit and internal control functions in co-operation with accounting staff and management.
- Direct and supervise accounting functions including accounts payable, resident accounting and payroll.
- Perform assigned analyses, including preparation of monthly financial statements and related analyses.
- Provide primary accounting support to corporate office staff; and
- Provide planning, implementation and monitoring support for accounting related projects.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 5 level of the CGA/CPA program of professional studies (or recently attained your CPA designation).
- A minimum of five years of experience in a financial environment, preferably in a fully integrated, computerized health care setting.
- Accounting or financial statement analysis role.
- Strong knowledge of the accounting cycle and accounting theory
- Highly developed analytical skills, as demonstrated with previous job responsibilities
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Work well under pressure and use good judgment and good aptitude for understanding journal entries and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Detail oriented with the ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy.
- Energetic self-starter with strong organizational skills
- Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and manage workflow effectively and efficiently.
- Strong work ethic and high standards of professional and personal integrity
- Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management and external clients, and strong enthusiasm for change.
- Knowledge of budget preparation, fiscal internal controls, preparation of financial reports/submissions and monitoring of revenues/expenditures experience with selection, implementation development and use of computerized accounting/spreadsheet/word processing/database systems
- Knowledge of housing and care legislation
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervisory experience with the ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Proficient in Excel and Word
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and internal control processes
- Prior experience with ACCPAC, or other financial software would be an asset; some knowledge of the investment industry is an asset.

- - Meets health requirements of the Charitable Institutions Act, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Regulations and the criteria for health assessment of Hellenic Home.
- - Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend,
squat and stoop in the performance of daily activities.
- - Some lifting and moving residents, equipment and supplies.
- - Exposure to all resident care elements through regular resident contact.
- - Regular stress associated with dealing with resident care needs and time pressures.
- - Position requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using computer keyboard.
- - Must be able to read near and far written reports and work-related documents.
- - Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service.
- - Must be able to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighting up to 25 pounds.
- - Must be able to handle moderate noise levels.
Mental
- Ability to deal with distractions and maintain focus in potential emergency situations.
- Regular stress associated with dealing with resident care needs and time pressures.
- Considerable concentration required during preparation and administration of medications.
