About Asgard Consulting
Asgard Consulting is a boutique corporate finance and advisory firm helping Canadian SMEs secure capital, optimize operations, and scale. We take a grants-first approach: before a client takes on debt or gives up equity, we find the non-dilutive capital they already qualify for. We have helped over 100 Canadian businesses access funding through SR&ED;, IRAP, regional development programs, and federal and provincial grants, and we pair that work with debt structuring and M&A; advisory across food processing, manufacturing, energy services, franchising, and real estate development.
The Role
We are hiring a Senior Consultant, Government Grants to own client funding files end to end. You will sit with founders and C-suite executives to understand what they are actually building, map it against the programs that fit, and write the applications that get approved. You will deal directly with program officers, manage the process through to disbursement, and keep clients compliant on their reporting obligations after the money lands.
This is a senior seat with client ownership. You will not be writing to someone else's outline.
You'll Thrive Here If You...
- Write well under deadline and can make a technical project read as a fundable one.
- Enjoy learning a current industry every few weeks and asking the questions that surface the real story.
- Are comfortable in the room with a CEO, and equally comfortable on the phone with a program officer.
- Track detail relentlessly,
because most applications fail on eligibility technicalities rather than on merit.
- Want to own outcomes rather than tasks.
What You'll Do
- Funding Strategy and Client Engagement
- Assess client projects against available federal, provincial, and regional funding programs.
- Advise executives and founders on program fit, timing, stacking rules, and realistic probability of success.
- Engage directly with government program officers to pre-qualify projects and clarify requirements.
- Own the client relationship through the full funding lifecycle.
Proposal Development and Grant Writing
- Research market data, industry reports, and technical documentation to build the case.
- Draft business plans, funding proposals, and formal applications.
- Translate technical and financial detail into clear, persuasive narrative that meets program criteria.
- Review and strengthen work produced by junior team members.
Compliance, Reporting, and Program Intelligence
- Track application status, manage follow-ups, and respond to agency information requests.
- Deliver post-award reporting and claims on time and in the required format.
- Monitor new and changing programs and bring opportunities back to the team and to existing clients.
- Maintain accurate client records and contribute to process improvement across the grants practice.
What You Bring
- A bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, engineering, science, communications,
or a related field.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in grant writing, funding applications, technical writing, or business consulting.
- A demonstrated track record of successful funding applications. Bring examples.
- Excellent written communication, with experience writing for executive and technical audiences.
- Strong client-facing judgment and the ability to manage expectations honestly.
- The ability to run multiple files against hard deadlines without dropping detail.
- Comfort working independently in a hybrid setup.
Considered an Asset
- Direct SR&ED; claim preparation experience, technical or financial.
- Experience with IRAP, Sustainable Development Technology Canada, Prairies Economic Development Canada, FedDev Ontario, Alberta Innovates, or comparable regional programs.
- A technical or scientific background that lets you interrogate an R&D; project credibly.
- Prior experience inside a funding agency or in a program officer role.
- CPA designation, or CPA in progress.
Why Asgard
- A grants-first practice that is core to the firm, not a side service line.
- Direct access to decision makers at over 100 client companies across the country.
- Compensation that reflects results, with a performance bonus tied to what you close.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits after 90 days.
- Professional development support and room to build out the practice as we grow.
- Balanced flexibility. We move quickly without needless bureaucracy.
