Happy Tails Dog Daycare
North Vancouver
Happy Tails is looking for an experienced dog care professional to join our Dominion team as a Senior Dog Daycare Handler.
We’re looking for someone who is already confident working with groups of dogs and can bring experience, good judgement and leadership to the daycare floor. You’ll work closely with our Manager, help guide newer handlers and keep the day running safely and smoothly.
What we’re looking for:
- Previous professional dog daycare, boarding, training or group-handling experience
- Strong understanding of dog body language and group dynamics
- Confident managing off-leash playgroups and making good decisions around safety and behaviour
- Able to provide direction and support to less-experienced handlers
- Calm, reliable and proactive — you notice what needs to be done
- Comfortable helping lead the daycare floor when needed
- Confident communicating with pet parents at end-of-day handover, including sharing updates about their dog's day, behaviour or any concerns
- Positive-reinforcement, force-free approach to handling dogs
This is a hands-on role working directly with the dogs. We’re specifically looking for someone with enough experience to step in confidently and become a robust support to our Manager and team. Shifts will vary between 4-7 hours long, Mondays to Fridays between 11:00am - 6:30pm.
Wage:
$22-24/hour.
This is an intermediate level position and preference given to candidates with direct experience working with dogs.
TO APPLY AND BE CONSIDERED:
- A cover letter detailing how you fulfill the above requirements
- A resume outlining your work history
Pay: $22.00-$24.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week
Benefits
- Company events
- On-site parking
Application question(s):
- How many years of professional experience do you have working with groups of dogs in a daycare, boarding, training, shelter or similar environment? Required: ideally 2+ years.
- Have you independently supervised an off-leash group of 8 or more dogs?
- Do you have experience training, mentoring or providing direction to less-experienced staff
- Happy Tails uses positive-reinforcement, force-free handling. Are you comfortable working without e-collars, prong collars, physical corrections or other aversive handling methods?
- This position pays $22–$24/hour depending on experience. Does this range meet your expectations?
- Briefly describe your experience reading dog body language and managing group dynamics. How would you respond if you noticed tension developing between two dogs?
