Shelter Support Worker – Night Shift (Two Positions)
Positions Available:
- SSW-14: Part-Time, Friday and Saturday nights
- SSW-15: Part-Time, Friday and Saturday nights
Rotation: Two shifts on, five days off
Location: NVSSS Shelter (Knights Inn), Merritt, BC
Reports to: Shelter Manager
Wage: $27.00 per hour
NVSSS invites current employees to apply for two permanent part-time Shelter Support Worker night positions.
Shelter Support Workers provide trauma-informed, person-centred support to shelter participants. Responsibilities include responding to crises, using de-escalation and harm-reduction practices, completing wellness and security checks, maintaining accurate records, preparing incident reports, assisting with meals and laundry, and helping maintain a safe and clean shelter environment.
Applicants should have
- Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, mental-health challenges or substance use;
- Solid communication, conflict-resolution and crisis-intervention skills;
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction;
- The ability to work independently and make sound decisions during night shifts; and
- Relevant human-services education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
