Shelter Support Worker – SSW-9 Evenings

Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time

Schedule: Friday–Monday, 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.

Rotation: Four shifts on, three days off (fixed)

Hours: 32 hours per week

Location: NVSSS Shelter (Knights Inn), Merritt, BC

Reports to: Shelter Manager

Wage: $27.00 per hour

NVSSS invites current employees to apply for the permanent part time SSW-9 Evening position.

The Shelter Support Worker provides trauma-informed, person-centred support to shelter participants. Responsibilities include responding to crises, using de-escalation and harm-reduction practices, completing wellness and security checks, maintaining accurate records, preparing incident reports and helping maintain a safe and clean shelter environment.

Applicants should have

- Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, mental-health challenges or substance use;

- Strong communication,



conflict-resolution and crisis-intervention skills;

- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction;

- The ability to work independently and make sound decisions during night shifts; and

- Relevant human-services education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
