Job Purpose The High School Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in Grades 10-12. supporting academic achievement, graduation requirements, and future pathways into post-secondary education, trades, and careers. Teachers create inclusive and engaging learning environments that support student success while integrating culturally responsive practices and Cree worldview perspectives where appropriate. Instruction is aligned with Alberta Education curriculum standards, the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS), and the KEA Teaching Quality Standard (KEA-TQS), ensuring students develop strong academic, critical thinking, and life skills necessary for success beyond graduation.
High School
Teachers work collaboratively with school staff, Elders, families, and community partners to support student achievement and wellbeing.
Education, Experience And Requirements
EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent.
Certification Requirements
- Valid Alberta Interim or Permanent Skilled Teaching Certificate (minimum requirement).
- Teachers must provide a copy of their most recent Alberta Teaching Quality Standard Evaluation
(TQS)
- Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check
is required.
Preffered Experience
- Experience teaching high school courses aligned with Alberta Education curriculum.
- Experience working with Indigenous students and communities.
- Experience integrating Indigenous perspectives and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Ethical judgment and integrity
- Conflict resolution and mediation
- Cultural awareness and inclusion
- Change management and adaptability
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Analytical thinking and employee relations expertise
Working Conditions
- Work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Required to work a total of 8-40 hours per week (Essential Service)
- 10-month-based employee, with summers off per the annual operational calendar.
- May require occasional lifting of light office supplies and equipment.
- This position may require travel to various locations for meetings and events.
- Participation in cultural activities, school events, and community engagement opportunities may be required.
