Tax Accountant
Location: Fully Remote Employment Type: Part-Time — 30 hours/week Reports To: Partner
Our client is a small, established public accounting firm based in Toronto, providing personal and corporate tax, accounting, and advisory services to a diverse client base of individuals, families, and owner-managed businesses. About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis (30 hours/week), with strong potential to grow into a full-time and/or more senior position as the firm expands. This role is well-suited to a candidate who enjoys hands-on tax preparation and review work and wants to build a long-term career with a firm that values expertise and initiative. During the busy season hours will increase.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review personal income tax returns (T1)
- Prepare and review corporate income tax returns (T2) for owner-managed and small to mid-sized corporations
- Prepare and review trust income tax returns (T3)
- Prepare related tax slips and filings, including T4, T5, T5013, and other information returns as required
- Calculate and review tax installments, and monitor filing and payment deadlines
- Research and apply relevant provisions of the Income Tax Act and CRA administrative positions to client situations
- Respond to CRA inquiries
- Liaise directly with clients to gather information, clarify tax matters, and communicate results in a clear,
professional manner
- Identify tax planning opportunities and flag issues or risks to partner
- Stay current on changes to tax legislation, CRA policies, and filing requirements
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with firm quality control standards and filing deadlines
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in tax accounting, with hands-on experience in both personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax; T3/trust experience considered a robust asset
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field
- CPA designation is not required for this role
- Strong working knowledge of the Income Tax Act and CRA administrative practices
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Profile, TaxCycle, CaseWare/CaseView, or similar)
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client files and deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team
