JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Warehouse Manager, the Whitby Warehouse Supervisor oversees all warehouse operations.
The Whitby Warehouse
Supervisor is responsible for the efficient flow of goods in and out of the warehouse to maximize customer responsiveness and satisfaction.

Supervisor will ensure that all warehouse service objectives are met while maintaining expenses within established operating budgets. Additional responsibilities include facility maintenance and maintaining the intergroup relationships required for successful operations.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 5 years managerial experience in a distribution operations environment
- Must possess robust negotiating skills and a demonstrated ability to manage people in a team environment
- Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office / Windows / Warehouse Mgmt. Technology)
- Possess and display a high level of self-motivation
- Must possess exceptional conflict resolution skills, diplomacy, and tact
- Must demonstrate critical thinking abilities on a continuous basis
- Advanced knowledge of reviewing, analyzing, implementing, and improving KPI’s
- Must be highly disciplined in time management
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Must be fully fluent in English ‐ reading, writing, and verbal
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong leadership skills
- MHE certified
- Must be able to safely operate the Order Picker and Walkie
Working Conditions
- 40 hours per week; occasional overtime required to meet departmental needs
- Continuous walking, bending, pushing, pulling, stretching and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Must be capable of working in both an office and warehouse environment
- Able to work from a platform at heights of 20 feet or more
- Use of a ladder
- Periodic travel required to warehouses and/or management meetings
- Must wear CSA-approved safety footwear with protective steel toes and personal protective equipment as required
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain all operations of the Warehouse
- Ensure that departmental targets are set and consistently met (e.g. receiving turnaround, order processing turnaround and accuracy, cycle count program)
- Manage the workflow of all Inbound Operations from receiving to put away
- Responsible for activities in receiving, picking, checking, replenishment, shipping,
and pickup operations
- Responsible for resource planning, meeting daily goals
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding established outbound customer service objective standards
- Responsible for processing, invoicing, and shipping all orders placed before 5:00 PM to meet customer deadline expectations
- Review specific GL expense account reports to meet budget restraints
- Ensure effective supervision of all warehouse functions
- Lead and manage a team of lead hands and warehouse associates in a fast‐paced environment to achieve required objectives
- Ensure that departmental targets are set and consistently met (e.g). receiving turnaround, order processing turnaround, and accuracy, cycle count program
- Set and maintain departmental targets for efficiency and accuracy to ensure that the flow of goods through the facility is done in an optimum manner
- Responsible for training and cross‐training of staff to ensure the continued efficient operation of the department on all warehouse functions
- Ensure that annual and monthly reviews are done on time
- Successfully manage process improvement projects and possess the ability to react to change productively and proactively
- Request staffing needs from the Warehouse Manager
- Ensure that the warehouse is safe, secure, and complies with OHS regulations & enforce safety rules and regulations
- Ensure effective management of inventory in the warehouse
- Responsible for conducting all performance appraisals for direct reports in a timely manner
- Provide effective coaching and feedback on a regular basis to direct reports
- Responsible for enforcing and developing, training, and mentoring associates on a regular basis to ensure KPI’s are continuously being met
- Lead monthly individual KPI meetings to ensure timely completion
- Responsible for accessing/amending ADP daily to ensure employee hours are correct prior to payroll processing
- Responsible for the implementation and handling of employee job code changes
- Prepare disciplinary documentation for employees who are underperforming or display problematic behaviour
- Responsible for carrying out employee disciplinary action as per the Progressive Discipline Policy
- Ensure inbound receiving process flows smoothly from offloading to put away
- Ensure put-away process is completed as quickly and accurately as possible
- Responsible for updating off-site storage log regularly and accurately
- Actively assists the JHSC with investigations and resolving any past, ongoing and new findings
- Complete and submit employee incident reports to the Warehouse Managers and Human Resources right away
- Maintain valid first aid certification
- Research, discuss, and implement process improvements
- In accordance with our Management Payroll Reporting Policy & SOP,
the Warehouse Supervisor must:
- Be aware of the payroll cutoff and processing dates
- Review timesheets and correct any inaccuracies prior to submitting to the Warehouse Manager
- Report any payroll discrepancies to the Payroll Department immediately in writing
- Provide training or retraining to employees on the proper use of the ADP system
- Enforce safety rules and regulations
- Promote SanMar Canada’s Vision, Values, and Mission statement
- Adhere to current and future company policies and standards to ensure a safe and agreeable working environment
- Responsible for properly communicating and training department staff on current and future
- company policies and standards to ensure a safe and agreeable working environment
- Responsible for ensuring all policies are adhered to and must communicate any breach of policy to Human Resources or Senior Management
- Assist in other areas of the Warehouse department and perform additional duties as required by management
Working Relationships & Communications
- Conducts general warehouse meetings
- Shares input and ideas regarding regular team-building events
- Coach’s employees in warehouse procedures
- Addresses customer service concerns and inquiries
- Works in cooperation and communicates effectively with all levels of the SanMar Canada team
- Works closely with all internal departments to ensure superior customer service
- Works closely with the Human Resource Department, providing support and feedback to continuously improve policies,s ensuring they are successfully implemented and enforced
- Works closely with the co‐chair and members of the JHSC to ensure safety remains a top priority
- Keeps co‐workers informed of activities that have implications to their department/respective shift
- Collaborates with the operations leadership team to maintain and improve a progressive company culture
- Supports senior leadership in the execution of strategic plans and works together with workmates to understand, communicate, and attain business goals
- Maintains a facilitating role with subordinates
- Has the ability to give and take constructive criticism
- Supports and responds to SanMar Canada's customers’ needs and requests in a timely manner
- Openly communicates any successes, concerns, or problems related to the job
- Must hold themselves and the warehouse team accountable – communicating successes and feedback on a regular basis
- Maintains a positive, upbeat attitude and promotes high team morale while focusing on productivity, accuracy, inventory control, and overall performance of staff in the warehouse
- Actively supports the development, training, and performance of the operations team
- Promotes a safe and positive culture at all times
