Program: Spirit Way Second Stage Programming
Position: Housing Outreach Worker
Term : Full-Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
The worker will collaborate closely with the Second Stage Program Coordinator to provide comprehensive housing search support, including identifying suitable housing options, assisting with the lease-up process, and completing required documentation. Ongoing follow-up and correspondence with landlords, service providers, and clients will be conducted to promote housing stability and successful long-term tenancy
REPORTS TO: Spirit Way Program Coordinator
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Assist individuals and families with all aspects of housing search and placement into permanent housing, including developing individualized housing search strategies; completing housing applications; preparing required documentation; and negotiating with landlords, housing authorities, and realtors.
- Coordinate housing search and lease-up activities in collaboration with the Spirit Way Program and partner agencies involved in the housing placement process.
- Support clients in establishing and maintaining realistic budgets that promote long-term housing stability.
- Assist clients with accessing housing-related financial supports, including funds for move-in costs, damage deposits, and security deposits.
- Support working clients to maintain and maximize income through referrals to employment programs, training opportunities, and/or student financial aid for returning to school.
- Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and organization of Spirit Way, including interior and exterior grounds and all common areas.
Cleaning duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining cleanliness of the laundry room, including weekly cleaning of dryer vents
- Emptying garbage, compost, and recycling; ensuring proper waste separation
- Cleaning and organizing the Amenity Room and shared spaces
- Maintaining cleanliness of the parking lot, walkways, entrances, and refuse areas
- Seasonal duties such as snow removal and basic outdoor upkeep
- Perform cleaning and preparation duties related to client move-ins and move-outs, including room resets and light maintenance coordination; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Complete all required computer-based data tracking, reporting, and client file documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Travel throughout Metro Vancouver to support housing search, viewings, lease signings, and related activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Spirit Way Program Manager.
- Valid BC Drivers License.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to three (1–3) years of experience in housing search or a related field preferred, including case management, property management, housing support, community organizing, or advocacy.
- Demonstrated strong advocacy and outreach skills, with the ability to engage effectively with landlords, service providers, and community partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to complete reports, correspondence, and client documentation accurately and professionally.
- Basic math skills required for budgeting, rent calculations, and financial planning support.
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness to successfully transition beyond Second Stage programming into permanent housing.
- Knowledge of subsidized and private housing resources, housing programs, and relevant regulations is preferred.
- Experience working with homeless adults, individuals in recovery, and/or those experiencing mental health challenges is preferred.
- Computer proficiency required, including MS Windows, Word, email, internet use, and electronic data entry; experience with case management systems is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract are required for this position
Pay: From $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
