Apprentice Ironworker
Location: Prince George, British Columbia
Position Summary
Apprentice Ironworkers assist in laying out, installing, and fabricating structural steel in live and greenfield environments. Work assignments include cutting steel, interpreting blueprints, rigging, directing cranes, assisting welders, and setting structural steel. Employees are expected to support and participate in a “culture of safety” and adhere to and be ambassadors of Strike’s Code of Conduct and Values, treating others with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Project Details
- Project Name: Mount Bracey Compressor Station
- Nearest City: Prince George, BC (Camp Project)
- Shift: 14 Days On / 7 Days Off
- Travel Allowance: $400/shift
- Camp Retention: $25/day
Core Accountabilities
- Read blueprints and specifications to lay out the work
- Assemble and erect prefabricated structural supports
- Signal crane operators to position steel units according to plan
- Erect and install, hoisting, equipment install, and rigging
- Position steel units, align holes, and insert temporary bolts
- Unload and install pre-cast components
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and moving structural steel/plates while standing for extended periods and securing steel in hard-to-reach areas
- Identify, initiate, recommend, and assist in issue resolution processes
- Identify, recognize, and demonstrate safe usage of power tools and hand tools appropriate for the work being done
- Perform other labour duties as required
Qualifications
Education
Must be a registered Apprentice with the appropriate provincial or federal authority
Experience
- Previous construction experience is an asset
- Experience working at heights is an asset
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug & alcohol testing
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Comfortable working outdoors
Safety Tickets Required
- CSTS 2020 or Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
- Bear or Wildlife Awareness course
- Fall Protection Training
- Aerial Work Platform Training
