The Assistant Manager is a full-time, in office role based at our Dartmouth, NS store. This position supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, merchandising, and maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards.
The Assistant
Manager leads and coaches team members, provides knowledgeable and friendly service to customers, and promotes products that meet the needs of pets at every life stage. The role includes monitoring sales performance, assisting with scheduling and labor planning,
and ensuring company policies and procedures are followed.
The Assistant
Manager also helps coordinate local events and community initiatives that reflect Pet Valu’s commitment to pet welfare and customer engagement.
Qualifications
- Experience in retail or customer-facing environments, with skills in customer service, sales support, and relationship building.
- Foundational leadership abilities including team coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and supporting a positive, inclusive work culture.
- Operational skills such as inventory control, merchandising, cash handling, and adherence to store policies and safety standards.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, including clear verbal and written communication, time management, and attention to detail.
- Comfort working with point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications for scheduling, reporting, and inventory tracking.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to perform physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Knowledge of or interest in pet care and products; previous experience in a pet-related or specialty retail environment is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in business.
