Position Summary The Bender Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating press brake and/or bending equipment to form metal components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements. The position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate press brakes, bending machines, and related production equipment.
- Review engineering drawings, work orders, and job specifications to determine required bends, dimensions, angles, and sequence.
- Select and install appropriate tooling and dies for each job.
- Accurately measure and inspect parts using measuring equipment such as tape measures, calipers, angle gauges, and other precision tools.
- Make machine adjustments as required to achieve specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Complete first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
- Identify and correct dimensional or quality issues and notify the supervisor of recurring problems.
- Operate equipment efficiently while maintaining required production schedules and quality standards.
- Handle and position raw materials and finished components safely, using appropriate lifting equipment where required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and applicable health and safety legislation.
- Complete required production paperwork, inspection records, and other documentation accurately.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report maintenance or equipment concerns promptly.
- Work cooperatively with other production employees, supervisors, engineering,
and quality personnel.
- Assist with other production duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience operating a press brake, metal bender, or similar fabrication equipment is preferred.
- Manufacturing or metal fabrication experience is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and shop drawings.
- Solid understanding of measurements, angles, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Experience using basic measuring tools.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand machine setup and operation.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and position materials as required.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a production team.
- Previous experience with CNC press brakes or CNC bending equipment is an asset.
- Exposure to typical manufacturing noise, dust, and equipment.
- Use of required personal protective equipment.
- Occasional overtime or additional hours may be required based on production requirements.
