Maintenance Worker – Temporary (8-Week Contract)

Location: Belleville, ON & Surrounding Areas

Compensation: $25.00–$27.00 per hour, based on experience

Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary (8 Weeks)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Schedule: 8-hour shifts with rotating after-hours on-call duties

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Maintenance Worker to join our team for an eight-week temporary assignment, providing coverage during an employee's leave of absence.

The successful candidate will be responsible for general building maintenance and repairs across our four-storey apartment building in Belleville and four additional nearby properties.

Daily responsibilities include responding to maintenance requests, completing unit turnovers, performing general repairs, conducting preventative maintenance, and addressing building deficiencies.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, hands-on individual with strong troubleshooting skills who can work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with tenants, management, and contractors.

Participation in a rotating after-hours emergency on-call schedule is required.

Key Responsibilities

- Respond to daily maintenance requests and complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform general building repairs, including carpentry, drywall patching, painting, caulking, and minor fixture replacements.
- Complete general plumbing maintenance and minor repairs within the employee's qualifications and legal authorization.
- Assist with unit turnovers, including repairs, painting, and preparing vacant units for occupancy.
- Inspect and maintain common areas, hallways, stairwells, building exteriors, and grounds.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and report deficiencies involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.




- Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repairs requiring specialized contractors.
- Maintain accurate timesheets, work order records, and maintenance documentation.
- Assist with maintenance supplies, inventory, and equipment while following established purchasing procedures.
- Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule and respond to emergency maintenance situations as required.

All regulated trade work must be performed by appropriately qualified and authorized individuals. Qualifications & Requirements

- Previous experience in general building maintenance, property maintenance, or a related field.
- Strong carpentry skills and general knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and complete repairs independently.
- Experience maintaining residential apartment buildings is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work orders and manage multiple maintenance requests.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to travel between properties.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Ability to use a cellphone for work-related communication and complete basic maintenance documentation.
- Availability to participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

Preferred Experience & Certifications:





- 5 years of general maintenance or handyman experience.
- WHMIS and Fall Protection training certificates are assets.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in residential units, mechanical rooms, utility rooms, and other maintenance areas.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to assist with moving heavy appliances using appropriate equipment and assistance.
