Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital is looking for a compassionate, motivated, and dependable Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our Cardiology team.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a specialized veterinary environment, is interested in supporting advanced cardiac diagnostics and patient care, and enjoys working in a focused, fast-paced specialty environment.

Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

- Input patient information into the Echo machine prior to patient arrival.
- Assist the veterinary team with physical exams, echocardiograms, blood collection, catheter placement, radiographs, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, and pericardiocentesis.
- Demonstrate an understanding of each patient's presenting concern and reason for the visit.
- Safely restrain patients using Fear Free techniques, including patients who may be fearful or aggressive.
- Handle all patients with care and compassion.
- Run in-house laboratory tests, including chemistry profiles, CBCs, and PCV/TS.

Client Communication & Documentation

- Intake appointments and communicate with clients regarding visit goals and patient concerns.
- Accurately document patient histories and visit summaries in EzyVet for all appointments.
- Engage with clients in a friendly and professional manner, addressing questions and providing updates on patient health.
- Process client billing and assist with appointment scheduling.
- Complete computer-based administrative tasks, including billing and sending client reminders.

Cardiac Surgery Support

- Support cardiac surgeries by preparing and cleaning the surgery room.
- Assist with patient preparation and intraoperative support.
- Operate fluoroscopy as required.
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments.

General Department Support

- Perform general housekeeping duties, including sweeping and mopping.
- Clean the echocardiogram table,



probes, and machine.
- Take out garbage and assist with laundry.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and secure working environment.

- Is able to safely lift and assist with patients weighing up to 120 lbs (approximately 50 kg) with two-person assistance.
- Is available and willing to participate in ICU On-call coverage as required as part of this position.

Schedule

- 10-hour shifts, Tuesday to Friday
- Weekend availability required
