About us
Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) is a non-profit organization supporting industry-led livestock traceability in Canada. As a Responsible Administrator, CCIA manages the Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS) for regulated species and supports producers and industry stakeholders through practical education, resources and access to approved livestock indicators (tags) and compatible applicators.
Beyond its core traceability responsibilities, CCIA is working to advance the future of livestock identification and traceability. Through research, technology and industry collaboration, CCIA explores innovative tools and solutions designed to improve animal identification, data collection and traceability practices across Canada’s livestock industry.

We’re looking for a talented communicator and storyteller who can translate complex information into clear, practical and engaging content. As part of CCIA’s Communications Team, you’ll help showcase CCIA’s services and cutting-edge work to livestock producers, industry partners, government and the public.
Role Summary:
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Specialist plays an important role in developing and delivering communications that support CCIA’s strategic priorities, programs, and initiatives.
This intermediate-level position is ideal for a strong writer and communicator who can work independently, manage multiple projects, and translate complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences. The Communications Specialist will take ownership of assigned communications projects while working closely with internal teams and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Storytelling
- Develop and execute communications plans, campaigns, and content that support CCIA’s strategic priorities.
- Research, write, edit, and coordinate content including press releases, articles, newsletters, web copy, internal communications, presentations, brochures,
and educational materials.
- Translate complex or technical information into clear, accessible, and compelling communications.
- Identify and develop stories that highlight CCIA’s role in animal traceability, food safety, and industry innovation.
- Provide communications advice and recommendations to internal teams and ensure content aligns with CCIA’s brand, messaging, and Canadian Press style.
Digital & Social Media
- Develop and manage content calendars and create engaging content across CCIA’s social media and digital channels.
- Manage and update website content using WordPress and identify opportunities to improve digital engagement.
- Monitor social media and digital analytics, prepare performance reports, and recommend improvements.
- Create visuals and simple graphics using Canva, Snagit, or similar tools.
- Support photography, video, and multimedia projects as required.
Media, Stakeholders & Projects
- Support media relations activities, including preparing media materials, coordinating responses, and monitoring coverage.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, leadership, industry partners, and subject matter experts to ensure effective and timely communications.
- Lead assigned communications projects from planning through execution, coordinating timelines, approvals, and deliverables.
- Conduct research, surveys, and other audience or stakeholder engagement activities to inform communications.
- Stay current on communications trends, tools, and best practices and recommend new approaches where appropriate.
- Maintain communications resources, templates, and records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
- Demonstrated experience managing communications projects independently and working with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience developing content for social media, websites, email, and other digital platforms.
- Experience with Canva, WordPress, Hootsuite or similar tools, Mailchimp or similar platforms, Snagit, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Adobe Creative Suite, photography, and basic video editing experience are assets.
- Knowledge of the agricultural or livestock industry is an asset.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset, with strong proficiency in English writing.
