Role Summary The Director, Marketing will oversee Geologic's Marketing function, providing strategic direction, operational discipline and hands-on execution.
Reporting to the VP, Marketing, this new role sits at the intersection of marketing, sales and product leadership. We’re looking for an inventive marketer with great storytelling instincts to add senior capacity to a team that is already delivering, shape marketing priorities, define and communicate our value prop, own the annual marketing plan, improve sales enablement effectiveness, develop team members, and ensure marketing is making a measurable contribution to business growth.
This is an opportunity for a leader who enjoys both strategy and execution. We are looking for someone who can set direction, make decisions, and roll up their sleeves to produce great work.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing leadership, strategy and planning
- Set the direction for the marketing function, translating company strategy and priorities into clear marketing focus areas.
- Develop and execute the annual marketing plan, approve spending within delegated authority, and report performance against the plan.
- Establish and maintain priorities across sales enablement, campaigning, product launches, content initiatives, customer communications and events.
- Guide market positioning, messaging and go-to-market recommendations, including competitive response and the marketing approach for new products and offerings.
- Monitor trends, customer needs and competitive activity to inform strategy.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Build explicit goals, expectations and development plans for direct reports.
Sales enablement and commercial content
- Revolutionize Geologic's sales enablement efforts in partnership with Sales leadership.
- Oversee the creation and continuous improvement of creative, compelling, high-value sales enablement materials, including:
- sales presentations
- customer stories
- proposal and RFP content
- competitive positioning materials
- product messaging and value propositions
- This is the hands-on part of the role. The Director produces enablement content, working alongside the team and drawing on freelance support where volume or specialized content requires it.
- Act as Sales' point of contact for enablement requests, including rapid response requests.
- Continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of customer-facing materials.
Performance measurement and communication
- Establish marketing performance measures and reporting rhythms together with the VP, Marketing.
- Communicate results, insights and recommendations to senior leadership and executive teams.
- Monitor budget performance,
team capacity and delivery effectiveness.
- Recommend changes that increase marketing impact and efficiency.
Who will thrive in this role The ideal candidate is a creative, commercially minded marketing leader who enjoys hands-on involvement: a player coach who can create the work and lead the people to do it, rather than a pure strategist. They are equally comfortable discussing strategy with senior leadership, collaborating with Sales and Product teams, and personally developing materials that move opportunities forward.
They bring sound judgment, strong communication skills and a practical approach to solving problems. They know how to create structure and accountability without creating unnecessary complexity, are adaptable and can tolerate ambiguity as commercial opportunities evolve, and they are motivated by helping both the team and the business succeed.
Qualifications
- Creativity and great storytelling instincts
- Significant experience leading B2B marketing functions or teams.
- Experience supporting commercial growth through marketing strategy and execution.
- Strong sales enablement and content development expertise, with direct experience defining and communicating great value propositions.
- A track record of personally producing commercial content, not only directing others to produce it.
- Exceptional written communication and messaging skills.
- Experience managing budgets, plans and marketing performance reporting.
- Experience briefing and managing freelance writers, agencies or other external partners.
- Demonstrated success coaching and developing team members.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution. Experience in software, analytics, intelligence, data, energy or related B2B industries would be advantageous but is not required.
