Location: Vancouver, BC

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Work Arrangement: In office

Start Date: December 2026

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

About the Opportunity

Talent Renew Inc. has partnered with a well-established boutique commercial law firm in downtown Vancouver to recruit a Director of HR & Operations to join their leadership team.

This is a senior leadership prospect for an experienced HR and operations professional who enjoys a varied role and wants to have a meaningful impact on the firm's people, culture, operations, and long-term growth.

The Role The Director of HR & Operations will oversee the firm's broader management and administrative functions, including human resources, financial administration, technology, marketing, facilities, risk management, and operational policies and procedures .

Working closely with the firm's Directors, lawyers, and staff, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership while remaining hands-on in the day-to-day management of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Firm Management

- Oversee the firm's overall management and administrative functions, including HR, financial management, IT, marketing, facilities, and administrative policies
- Provide strategic and approachable leadership on human resources and personnel matters
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, continuous improvement, collegiality, and trust
- Build strong working relationships with lawyers and staff at all levels
- Handle confidential and sensitive employee matters with professionalism, discretion, and integrity
- Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement employment and administrative policies and procedures
- Develop initiatives that strengthen firm culture, employee engagement, and collaboration

Human Resources & Talent Management
- Oversee all HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compliance, performance management, compensation, and employee relations
- Lead recruitment, interviewing, hiring,



and onboarding of new staff
- Coordinate annual staff performance reviews
- Meet regularly with Legal Administrative Assistants and paralegals to address concerns and support professional development
- Manage employee and associate departures, including offboarding and transition processes
- Provide recommendations to firm leadership regarding salary increases and bonuses

Governance & Strategic Implementation
- Prepare agendas for Directors' meetings and chair meetings as required
- Maintain accurate meeting minutes and ensure follow-up on key decisions
- Chair and facilitate various firm committees, including social, technology, and management committees
- Ensure decisions made by firm leadership are implemented effectively and communicated appropriately
- Serve as the firm's Chief Privacy Officer

Technology & Information Systems
- Oversee the firm's technology systems, equipment, telecommunications, and related infrastructure
- Evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements and enhancements
- Coordinate software and hardware implementations and ensure appropriate training for lawyers and staff
- Manage relationships with external technology consultants and service providers

Facilities, Vendors & Risk Management
- Oversee the firm's physical facilities, furnishings, equipment, and office operations
- Coordinate with landlords, contractors, architects, designers, vendors, and suppliers
- Manage the firm's insurance portfolio, including renewals and claims
- Address tenant-related requests and operational matters

Marketing, Communications & Events
- Oversee internal and external firm events and initiatives
- Coordinate participation in industry events
- Manage client and holiday gift initiatives
- Oversee the firm's website and digital communications
- Coordinate publication of firm news, articles, announcements, and social media content





Additional Responsibilities
- Lead and support special projects and operational initiatives as required
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen internal processes
- Provide ongoing support to firm leadership on strategic and administrative matters
- Undertake other management responsibilities as required to support the firm's growth and objectives

Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in management and administration , preferably within a professional services environment
- Experience working within a law firm or professional services organization is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of human resources, operations, and organizational management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to operational management
- Robust ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with lawyers, professionals, and staff at all levels
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, NetDocuments, and/or Action step is considered an asset
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business technology systems

Compensation & Benefits
- $135,000–$185,000 annual salary , based on experience and qualifications
