Job Summary The HCA/Personal Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting and guiding young individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and assistance, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for youth to thrive. The HCA/Personal Support Worker will collaborate with the office admin and families to foster a secure, nurturing environment for the child.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and support in the home and community, including assistance with daily living activities and personal care.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to the child’s specific needs and goals.
- Support communication through visuals, AAC devices, PECS, and other tools.
- Foster a supportive and safe environment that encourages personal growth.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided, progress achieved, and any incidents.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and stay current with best practices.
- Assist with lifting or physical support as required to ensure the child’s safety and comfort.
- Ensuring the client's safety at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Health Care Aid or equivalent.
- Previous experience supporting children with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of communication supports (visuals, AAC, PECS, etc.) is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication,
and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in challenging situations.
- Physical ability to assist with lifting and other supportive tasks as needed.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification and a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (Required).
- The ability to demonstrate composure and sound judgement in high-pressure situations.
- Experience in supporting children through escalations while maintaining a calm and safe environment.
- Skilled in managing high-needs behaviours with patience, control, and empathy
- This is not an entry-level position
