- Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
- Compensation: $26.00 to $29.00 per hour
- Start Date: October 1, 2026 (or earlier if mutually agreed) Training: One week of paid training provided

About Abbeyfield Houses of Vancouver Society Abbeyfield Houses of Vancouver Society provides safe, welcoming, and supportive independent living accommodation for seniors. We are seeking an experienced, organized, and compassionate Head Cook to join our team and play a key role in fostering a warm dining experience for our residents.

Position Summary The Head Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing nutritious and appealing meals for approximately 18 seniors residing in an independent living setting. This position involves leadership of kitchen operations across two kitchens, supervision of part-time staff, and collaboration with the House Coordinator to ensure excellent service and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Meal Planning & Food Preparation
- Plan and prepare healthy, balanced, and attractive meals for approximately 18 senior residents.
- Develop seasonal menus that accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special nutritional requirements.
- Ensure all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion control.
- Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Order groceries, food products, and kitchen supplies for two kitchens.
- Maintain inventory levels and control food costs within budget guidelines.
- Work with suppliers to ensure quality products and timely deliveries.
- Staff Leadership & Coordination
- Coordinate and provide day-to-day direction to a team of six part time kitchen staff members.




- Develop schedules and assign duties to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Support staff training and promote a positive, respectful work environment.
- Administration & Communication
- Maintain records related to food purchasing, inventory, and kitchen operations.
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Report weekly to the House Coordinator regarding kitchen operations, staffing, resident feedback, and budget considerations.

Qualifications

- Previous experience as a Head Cook, Lead Cook, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Experience preparing meals for seniors, healthcare, residential, or community living environments is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of senior nutrition and dietary requirements.
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate staff.
- Valid Food Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a residential community setting.

Compensation & Benefits

- Competitive hourly wage of $26.00 to $29.00, based on experience and qualifications.
