Role Summary The IT Administrator is the primary onsite IT person for the Vaughan plant — a build-and-run role spanning the interior fit-out through to day-to-day operations. During buildout you will help install, configure, and validate the IT infrastructure (server room, network, cabling, end-user devices, shop-floor IT) alongside contractors and vendors.
Once the plant is running, you are the person the site turns to when something breaks — a role closer to production support in a software company than a traditional helpdesk. You triage quickly, restore service where you can, pull in the right specialists when you can't, and stay on the problem until it is genuinely resolved. The role works closely with the corporate IT team, the MES/automation team, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
IT Buildout & Commissioning
- Support the IT fit-out of the current plant: server room (MIR) rack/power/cooling commissioning, 5 IDF cabinets, structured cabling (Cat6A + fiber), network gear, servers/storage/backup, CCTV, access control, Wi-Fi, IP phones.
- Coordinate with civil/electrical contractors and MEP consultants on IT-related items (cable trays, conduits, dedicated circuits, room HVAC).
- Participate in FAT/SAT, track punch-list items, and maintain as-built documentation (cable schedules, port maps, IP allocations, rack elevations).
- Lead the handover from buildout to operations (runbooks, vendor contacts, warranty registration).
Network & Systems
- Maintain on-premises network equipment, MIR, and 5 IDF cabinets (UPS, environmental, fire detection alerts).
- Act as first responder for infrastructure incidents — network and internet outages, server or storage failures, Wi-Fi problems — restoring service where you can and bringing in corporate IT or vendors when specialist help is needed.
- Implement and document VLAN segmentation, IP addressing, firewall rules, and IT/OT segregation.
- Administer Windows Server / Active Directory (users, OU, GPO, DNS/DHCP), file server, and application account lifecycle across AD, Lark, ERP (SAP cloud), MES, and other systems.
- Support VMware vSphere / HCI at a Tier-1 operations level; monitor backups (Veeam) and validate recoveries.
End-User & Shop-Floor Support
- Provide first- and second-level onsite helpdesk for ~50 office staff and ~30+ shop-floor users — the first point of contact when something isn't working.
- Image, configure, and deploy end-user hardware and software (Windows 11, Lark suite, security agents, ERP/MES clients); manage MDM for mobile devices.
- Support and respond to failures on shop-floor endpoints: industrial PCs, HMIs, MES terminals, barcode scanners, label printers, andon displays, IP phones.
- Own each issue through to resolution — triage, restore service where you can, pull in corporate IT, the MES/automation team, or vendors when needed, keep production informed on status and expected recovery, and confirm the fix holds. You are not expected to personally know how to fix everything; you are expected to make sure it gets fixed.
- Work with the controls team on OT/IT integration points (within IT scope only); support CCTV, access control, and visitor management.
- Provide occasional after-hours support for genuinely critical outages and planned maintenance windows. This is not a 24/7 on-call role — evening and weekend work is the exception, not the routine.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain inventory, license records, network diagrams, SOPs, and incident logs.
- Track incident root causes and drive permanent fixes for recurring problems rather than repeat workarounds.
- Provide audit evidence for IATF 16949 and TISAX (user access reviews, patching, configuration baselines).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in IT infrastructure, network maintenance,
and onsite IT support (co-op experience counts).
- Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Solid working knowledge of:
- Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP
- Lark suite (Mail, Messenger, Docs, Calendar, Drive, Base) — user/admin operations
- TCP/IP, VLAN, routing/switching fundamentals
- Cisco networking — switches and firewalls (VLAN, trunking, ACL, NAT, VPN, basic policy)
- Structured cabling (Cat6A, fiber patching basics)
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Comfortable in a manufacturing environment (PPE, occasional lifting up to ~20 kg).
- Eligible to work in Canada; fluent English.
Preferred
- CCNA (or equivalent: CompTIA Network+, JNCIA).
- Additional certifications: CompTIA A+ / Security+, VMware VCP-DCV.
- Experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with new-site IT buildout, commissioning, or office/plant fit-out.
- Comfort reading floor plans and network architecture diagrams; coordinating with civil/MEP contractors.
- Exposure to IATF 16949, TISAX, or ISO 27001.
- Basic scripting (PowerShell / Bash / Python).
- Bilingual English/Mandarin is an asset.
