Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machine Shop Programmer/Setup Operator responsible for preparing, setting up, and optimizing CNC machines for production runs. This role ensures machines are properly configured, tools are correctly installed, and programs are accurately loaded to meet quality and efficiency standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC machines (mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines) for production according to work orders and blueprints
- Install and align tooling, fixtures, and workpieces
- Load, edit, and verify CNC programs as needed
- Perform first-off inspections to ensure parts meet specifications
- Adjust machine offsets, speeds, and feeds to optimize performance and quality
- Troubleshoot setup and machining issues to minimize downtime
- Work closely with machinists, programmers, and quality control teams
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Ensure adherence to company standards, safety procedures, and production schedules
- Document setup processes and any changes made during production
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in CNC setup, programming, and machining
- Solid understanding of CNC machinery, tooling, and machining processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T;, and technical drawings
- Experience with measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Proficiency with G-code and CNC programming basics (FANUC and FADAL controls)
- Knowledge of various materials such as aluminum, steel, cast iron, etc.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Prefered Skills
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines (4-axis, 5-axis)
- Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement is an asset
- Ability to train or mentor junior machinists
- Forklift license is an asset
Working Conditions
