About the Role:
Corus Entertainment is seeking a dynamic and innovative qualified to join the Broadcast Operations team at our Toronto location as a Master Control Operator.
Reporting to the Lead, Master Control, the Master Control Operator is part of a team responsible for monitoring and operating broadcast equipment and technologies to execute scheduled live and pre-recorded programs, commercials, and promos for all networks originating from Corus. Operators use a unique skillset to ensure revenue protection and viewer satisfaction. The team works extensively with various internal departments and external clients, maintaining a high level of customer service while meeting strict deadlines in a 24/7/365 broadcasting environment.
You'll contribute by:
- Monitoring the quality and signal integrity of all networks originating from Corus
- Operational execution of live and server-based program content, commercials and promos, and any last minute schedule changes associated with the aforementioned
- Ensuring Accessibility conditions of license are met for all networks originating from Corus
- Conducting advanced and periodic monitoring checks and taking corrective actions to ensure regulatory compliance and a positive viewer experience
- Protecting revenue for paid advertisements, lower/vertical thirds, infomercials, etc.
- Reporting, documenting and escalating all issues related to playout
- Participating in training programs for any relevant equipment and workflow changes related to Master Control
- Participating in and contributing to team-based projects to reach a departmental objective
- Following existing departmental procedures, workflows, and documentation
- Liaising with and properly escalating information to internal teams and external clients to mitigate and resolve technical issues to ensure a seamless, uninterrupted viewing experience
- Staying current with equipment, workflows and procedural changes required to perform tasks
- Providing playout execution and support in a 24/7/365 broadcasting environment for all networks originating from Corus
Skills and experience you will bring:
- Diploma or degree in broadcasting, communications, media or other technology fields or equivalent experience
- Previous experience with Mediator media asset management system and Playtime broadcast automation
- Understanding of file-based workflows and server-based technology
- Understanding of video codecs, formats and standards,
aspect ratios, multi-channel audio configurations (2.0, 5.1, DV), and closed captioning
- Proficiency in computer skills – Microsoft Office suite and other integrated applications and communication tools
- Able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, overnights and weekends
- Must be adaptable, able to multi-task and work with acute attention to detail
- Communicate in a positive, friendly manner and with a customer service approach
- Ability to handle challenging situations with professionalism, empathy and sincerity

- Fluency in French, Spanish and Italian is an asset
