We believe technical innovation can solve the most complex workflow problems in healthcare, and restore joy to the practice of medicine.
We are building a team that reflects our values of innovative, transparent, and fast-paced solutions for our clients. Want to be challenged in a team that constantly innovates, grows, and values your input? Don’t miss this opportunity!
Who We Are Looking For
Ava is growing quickly, and our people programs need to grow with us. We are looking for an intermediate People & Culture Generalist to take ownership of the programs that keep a fast-moving, remote-first company healthy: benefits, policy, engagement, training, and our B Corp certification. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will partner directly with managers and executives across Ava.
This role will suit a detail-oriented self-starter who can take a problem and run with it, and who believes People & Culture should enable the team to achieve its goals while managing risk.
What You’ll Do

Design, deliver, and improve employee benefits, including health programs and Health Spending Accounts
Draft and maintain people-first HR policies ensuring compliance with employment, health, and safety standards across operating provinces
Manage Ava's B Corp recertification, coordinating company-wide stakeholders, evidence, and timelines
Lead end-to-end People & Culture projects, covering planning, change management, communication,
and adoption
Develop and deliver training for employees and managers, spanning policy rollouts and skill development
Administer BambooHR, maintain accurate employee records, and support the payroll function
Serve as the primary, trusted contact for employee relations, handling sensitive matters with discretion
Support company performance reviews and help managers coach and develop their teams
Organize culture initiatives and engagement events to keep our remote team connected
Partner with the Director of Operations, managers, and executives on company-wide people priorities
Minimum qualifications A completed post-secondary degree with a major in Human Resources
3 to 5 years of progressive HR generalist experience
Working knowledge of Alberta employment standards, with experience applying employment legislation in policies and day-to-day practice
Experience administering employee benefit programs, ideally including designing or enhancing them
Demonstrated success managing projects end to end, including stakeholder coordination and change management
Experience drafting HR policies, employee communications, and training materials
Hands-on experience administering an HRIS
Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to run independently and see work through to completion
Based in Calgary, Alberta
Nice to have
CPHR designation or active CPHR candidacy
Experience with B Corp certification or similar accreditation and audit frameworks (for example ISO or Great Place to Work)
BambooHR experience
Experience supporting a fully remote, multi-provincial team
Formal change management training (for example PROSCI)
Soft Skills
Warm, approachable,
and genuinely people-first; you build trust quickly at every level of the company
Collaborative by default; you bring people along rather than working around them A clear, confident communicator in writing and in person, comfortable working with managers and executives
Discretion and sound judgment with confidential and sensitive matters
Organized and dependable, with strong follow-through on commitments An enabler mindset; you look for the path to yes while managing risk
Benefits of Joining Ava
