Unit Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences Pharmacy Services is embarking on an exciting, transformational journey of redefining patient care as we leverage the most advanced technologies to enhance all aspects of delivering highly reliable, safe and quality care. We are a multi-site department offering a wide range of services within inpatient, ambulatory and retail pharmacy services. We have pharmacy facilities at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, Hamilton General, McMaster University Medical Centre, St.

Peter’s, West Lincoln and other sites as required including Alternate Health Facilities. The scope of Pharmacy services also includes three retail pharmacies (Cancer Centre Pharmacy, McMaster Drugstore and General Drugstore). We are a tertiary care center offering a wide range of specialty patient services ranging from neonatal, pediatric, adult, geriatric and palliative care and are collaborators for clinical trials and research.

Our services are offered with recently renovated state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities for sterile and non-sterile compounding.

At Hamilton Health Sciences,



the Pharmacy department plays an instrumental role in ensuring the secure distribution and service of medications to patients which facilitates successful patient treatment outcomes in compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation standards. The management and distribution of our medications is critical in ensuring we are able to consistently deliver high-quality, safe patient care. As we continue to grow our pharmacy operations, we are seeking Registered Pharmacy Technicians to join our team.

Our pharmacy technicians are important members of the interdisciplinary team, performing a wide variety of responsibilities including completion of best possible medication histories, hazardous and nonhazardous sterile and non-sterile compounding; automations; and drug distribution. Our pharmacy technicians have unique opportunities to grow their skills through teaching and mentoring students, specializing in areas such as oncology, neonatal/pediatrics, and participating in , committees, projects and working groups

Monday to Friday days and holidays

- Completion of a college level Pharmacy Technician Program required (accredited college level Pharmacy Technician Program preferred)
- Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacy Technician (RPhT)
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, detail oriented, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Strong computer skills
- Proven ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the role. Self-directed in seeking out pharmacy issues within the healthcare team
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development
- Proven ability to perform the physical requirements of the position which may include standing for extended periods of time, moderate lifting and pushing carts
