Position Summary The Production Supervisor directly reports to the Production Manager and co-ordinates the activities of the production Team Members who operate ovens and line machines to produce and package pita and Lavash products.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Arrange production schedule according to pick-up schedule for that day
- Pre-op at beginning of every shift, walk through with supervisor prior to shift start.
- Verify paper work is completed by mixers, line operators and HACCP coordinators; forms accurately filled out with no errors (at midnight, all forms must be collected).
- Responsible for verifying CCPs, enforcing all quality and food safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct spot checks of mixers on a daily basis and complete evaluation forms.
- Verify that daily TM numbers are consistent with pre-set levels on a daily basis
- Provide shipping and receiving with the required list of ingredients as per the planned production schedule.
- Responsible for finished product recall.
- Complete ‘Attendance Record’ form for attendance issues that arise and have Production Manager Sign off.
- Complete ‘Event Records’ for Team Member issues that arise and record details of the event.
- Regularly read emails for special orders that have to be completed.
- Communicate with line operators to ensure problems are addressed immediately (i.e.: faulty equipment)
- Ensure quality of product: prepare frozen products to be shipped; check product dates and weights that are being packaged (sliced pitas must weigh equally on both sides of the pita); box frozen pitas
- Responsible for seeking conflict resolution strategies within the bakery during the shift.
- Observe and enforce food safety policies and procedures; team member safety policies and procedures; and bakery work standards for production team,
contractors and visitors.
- Complete accident investigations and return to work documents.
- Monitor CCP at the beginning of each shift and verify CCP – metal detector and monitor CCP – flour sifting.
- Change slicing blades and ensure equipment is sanitized and recorded in the Sanitation log.
- Ensure visitors or contractors are properly screened before entry into the facility as per SOP 04.02.01.
- Responsible for product release.
- Verify daily and weekly sanitation tasks are completed.
- Oversee duties of other supervisors in his/her absence (may be required to fill in on short notice).
- Always work safely, keep work area clean and tidy, wear proper PPE, ensure product meets proper quality and food safety standards and work to GMP standards/rules.
- Escalate any issues to the appropriate department for resolution (across the organization).
- Must be trained on food allergens.
- Responsible for daily OEE.
- Responsible for all TMs wearing PPE
- Must be part of the health and safety team.
- Develop production schedules and maintain an inventory of finished products.
- Oversee Team Lead and Team Champion performance.
- Ensure Labour efficiencies are met.
- Ensure work orders are created and closed on time.
- Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor and equipment to meet production targets.
- Lead continuous improvement to reduce waste and improve efficiencies
- Use One point lessons and other problem solving tools such as 5W2H; PDCA; 5 WHY’s
- Champion the effective operation of Business System (Navision) as it relates to Operations.
- Account for all raw materials, packaging or finished goods for effective traceability.
- Any other job duties that may arise from time to time.
- Shared commitment to the development and continuing improvement of a positive food safety and quality culture
- Must be trained on 1) the sources of gluten (wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kamut and related grains), 2) the risk associated with gluten cross contamination and its impact on those with celiac disease; and 3) how to report instances of suspected contamination.
Skill and Experience Requirements
- Completion of secondary school preferred.
- Experience in food processing.
- Must be available by phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- First Aid certification
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Must be available to work rotating shifts (all 3 shifts).
- Proficient leadership skills and thinking skills.
- Experience with general computer applications and adequate typing skills.
- Problem solving skills with independent judgment.
- Familiar with HACCP policies.
- Previous experience overseeing between 60-80 people per shift.
- LEAN manufacturing experience an asset.
