NORTHERN COMFORT AND CO.
Toronto
Northern Comfort & Co. is not looking for someone who simply knows how to deliver a high quality home cleaning service.
We are looking for people who care about the quality of the work they do and the people they do it for.
Our clients invite us into their homes and, in many cases, see the same designated cleaning professionals every week or every other week. That means reliability, trust, consistency and attention to detail matter just as much as knowing how to clean. And we generously compensate our teams for developing long term relationships with our clients.
We are looking for people who take pride in their work, notice the little things, work efficiently, enjoy helping others and understand that a great clean isn't just about what you do — it's about how you make a client feel about their home.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO DO WELL IN THIS JOB?
This is an active, hands-on job. You will be moving throughout the day, but we are not interested in rushing people through as many houses as possible.
We want people who can learn how to work efficiently and intelligently while still maintaining a high standard.
That means learning the best order to complete tasks, developing a good routine, avoiding wasted time and working well with your teammate.
Efficiency does not mean cutting corners.
It means becoming very good at what you do.
COMPETITIVE PAY + BONUSES
Our cleaning professionals earn a percentage of each clean they complete, plus 100% of their tips and performance bonuses.
Our performance bonuses are based largely on your ability to keep clients with us over time — and that can only happen when the quality of the clean stays consistent without rushing or taking shortcuts.
We don't pack a long list of homes into your day. We want our teams to have the time to do the job properly, provide a high-quality clean and take care of their clients without constantly rushing to the next home.
We offer bonuses when a first-time client becomes a regular client — and even higher bonuses for keeping that client with us over time.
It's one thing to impress someone on the first clean. The real challenge is delivering that same level of care and quality every time.
Keep your clients happy, keep your standards high, and earn more.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You don't need to tell us you're perfect. In fact, we'd rather you didn't.
We're looking for people who are honest about their strengths, willing to learn and genuinely interested in becoming excellent at what they do.
Cleaning experience is helpful, but it isn't everything.
We are looking for people who are:
Caring — You notice when someone could use a little extra help and don't always need to be asked.
Reliable — Your clients and teammates can depend on you to show up and be ready to work.
Professional — You understand that you are entering someone's private home and representing Northern Comfort & Co.
Detail-oriented — You notice things other people walk past.
Efficient — You naturally look for smarter ways to organize your work and get things done properly.
Consistent — The quality of your tenth clean for a client should be just as good as your first.
Personable — You are comfortable speaking with clients and developing relationships with the people whose homes you care for.
A team player — You understand that when two people are responsible for a home, you help each other get the entire job done properly.
BEFORE YOU APPLY — TELL US ABOUT YOU
We're doing things a little differently.
We don't want a perfectly written application, and we don't want answers written for you by AI or ChatGPT.
We want to hear from you.
Short answers are fine. Perfect grammar isn't important. English does not need to be your first language.
What matters to us is that your answers are honest and your own.
There are no perfect scores here. Giving yourself a 5/5 for everything won't necessarily make you a stronger candidate.
1. CARE — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
How naturally do you notice opportunities to help someone or do a little more than what was expected?
Tell us about one real time you did something extra for another person simply because you noticed it would help them.
2. RELIABILITY — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
If we spoke to your previous employer or coworkers, what would they tell us about your attendance, punctuality and reliability?
What would they say is your strongest quality as an employee?
3. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
How comfortable are you talking with customers, getting to know them and receiving feedback about your work?
Tell us about a customer or client you developed a good relationship with.
What do you think made that person trust or like working with you?
4. PROFESSIONALISM — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
How would a previous employer describe the way you communicate, present yourself and behave around customers?
What does being professional inside someone's home mean to you?
5.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
When nobody is watching or checking your work, do you maintain the same standard?
Tell us about something you tend to notice that other people sometimes miss.
6. EFFICIENCY — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
How good are you at finding a quicker or smarter way of doing something without lowering the quality of your work?
When you have several things to get done, do you naturally think about what order will make the most sense?
Give us an example of a time you figured out a better or more efficient way to complete a task.
7. CONSISTENCY — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
It's often easy to put extra effort into something when it's new.
The harder part is maintaining that same standard after you've done the job many times.
How do you make sure you don't start taking shortcuts or overlooking things once you become familiar with a job?
8. TEAMWORK — RATE YOURSELF 1–5
What would your previous coworkers say is the best thing about working with you?
And be honest
What is one thing they might say you could improve?
9. TAKING INITIATIVE
Imagine you and your teammate are almost finished with a client's home.
Your own assigned work is finished, but you notice your teammate is still working.
What would you do?
10. THE EXTRA 10 MINUTES
You're almost finished at a client's home and notice something small that could use some extra attention.
It wasn't specifically assigned to you and taking care of it may mean spending another 5–10 minutes there.
What would you do, and why?
ONE FINAL QUESTION
Why do you think you would be good at this job?
Don't tell us what you think we want to hear.
Tell us what you genuinely think you would bring to a Northern Comfort & Co. team.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
We believe that if we expect our people to take care of our clients, we need to take care of our people too.
We provide training, professional equipment and supplies, clearly defined standards and enough time to do the job properly.
We don't believe in packing an unrealistic number of homes into a day and then asking our teams to race through them.
Our goal is to build designated teams that our clients know, trust and look forward to seeing.
We want people who are proud of their work, enjoy the relationships they build and want the prospect to earn more as they become stronger at what they do.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to meet you.
Please apply with your résumé and answer the questions above in your own words.
