# Lab Operations Specialist IIApply**Job#: 3052276****Job Description:****Specialist II, Lab Operations****Client**: Biotechnology company**Contract duration**: 12-month contract (possibility of extension)**Location**: Toronto**Pay Rate**: $42-48 /hr**Description of Position:**The Lab Operations Specialist II will be based in Toronto supporting build out and operational readiness activities related to a new facility build. This position reports to the Manager, Lab Operations. The individual will initially work from our client’s current Toronto site until the new facility is functional. The role will include visits to the new site as needed to support operational readiness activities and coordinate with stakeholders across Research, Process Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Facilities, Engineering, EHS, IT, Supply Chain, Procurement, and external service providers to help prepare the site for successful startup and ongoing operations.The individual will support laboratory stakeholder coordination, equipment planning and relocation, business system readiness, operational documentation, building and waste services, and vendor review activities. The successful candidate will be highly organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and able to move work forward in a fast-paced, cross-functional project environment.**Responsibilities:****Equipment Planning, Procurement, and Move Readiness*** Maintain the equipment master list and track equipment needs from user requirements, selection, procurement, installation, relocation, and operational handoff.* Coordinate equipment purchases by gathering requirements, evaluating options, obtaining quotations, documenting selections, and aligning timelines with project milestones.* Support equipment moves, installation readiness, vendor scheduling, asset setup,
and startup activities required for laboratory operations.**Site Readiness, Documentation, and Operational Programs*** Manage SOPs, work instructions, forms, and operational documentation needed to support facility startup and sustained operations.* Coordinate site readiness activities for laboratory and building support services, including waste management, gas delivery, consumables, service contracts, and related operational programs.* Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to review service needs, support vendor selection, and resolve readiness or operational issues.**Project Coordination, Systems, and Stakeholder Communication*** Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, track project deliverables, action items, risks, and readiness progress, and provide clear status updates to project and business stakeholders.* Support business system readiness and continuous improvement for asset management, inventory, maintenance, and laboratory operations while aligning activities with applicable safety, quality, regulatory, and company requirements.**Minimum Requirements:*** Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Operations, Biotechnology, or related field.* 3-5 years of experience in laboratory operations, facilities support, project coordination, or a related role within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences organizations.* Experience supporting equipment procurement, installation,
relocation, asset management, or laboratory startup activities.* Experience authoring or maintaining SOPs, work instructions, and operational documentation.* Familiarity with laboratory equipment, facilities operations, waste services, and laboratory support programs.* Experience with asset management, inventory, ERP, or quality systems.* Strong organizational, project coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.* Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing project needs in a collaborative environment.* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Teams, and Smartsheet.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Experience supporting a laboratory startup, expansion, relocation, or operational readiness program.* Experience with asset management, ERP or inventory management systems.* Experience coordinating laboratory equipment vendors, service providers, and support contracts.* Knowledge of laboratory safety, biosafety, waste management, and controlled documentation practices.**Work Setting:*** This position requires routine work in office, laboratory, and active construction or startup environments as project activities transition from the current Toronto site.* The role involves frequent interaction with laboratory equipment, vendors, contractors, and facility support personnel.* There is potential exposure to chemicals and biological materials consistent with a biotechnology research environment.* Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn in designated laboratories and construction areas.* Occasional off-hours or weekend work may be required to support equipment moves, installations, and critical project milestones.
