Job Summary

The Team
The Beneficiary and Diagnostic Services Branch provides provincial leadership in the stewardship of approximately $4 billion in annual compensation for physicians and other health care providers across British Columbia. Working closely with the Medical Services Commission, health authorities, professional associations, unions, and other key partners, the branch develops and administers compensation policies and programs that support high-quality, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services for patients throughout the province.
The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Medical Consultant provides expert clinical and policy advice on matters related to the Medical Services Commission Payment Schedule and the administration of physician compensation programs. The role evaluates proposed fee schedule amendments, supports medical claims adjudication and audit activities, contributes to policy development,



and works collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure compensation policies are effective, evidence-informed, and aligned with the goals of British Columbia’s healthcare system.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

M.D. or equivalent

Must be licensed by and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) to practice medicine in BC. Physicians not currently licensed by the CPSBC must be eligible to register with the College.

At least five (5) years of clinical experience, preferably within the last five (5) years.

Preference may be given for the following:

Experience in government or medical administration.

Experience with the British Columbia Fee for Service Payment system.
