The Royal is currently hiring for our Registered Practice Nurse float pool. The Registered Practical Nurse will work a scheduled rotation; however, the shifts will be split between Long-Term Care, the Geriatric Inpatient Program, and ECT (at the discretion of the needs of each unit, and scheduled by the scheduling department). The Registered Practical Nurse must be able to work on the stated units within the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.
Qualifications
Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice
Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years
Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required
Commitment to ongoing career development
Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment,
catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding
Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients
Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team
Basic computer skills required
Preferred:
GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) training and P.I.E.C.E.S training, or other related dementia care training
Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques
2 years recent experience with older adults with psychiatric/mental health illness
Language Requirements English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
