Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a (40 hours/week) Settlement Counsellor in Red Deer that speak the Arabic language.
This is a temporary contract position with a contract end date of December 31, 2026.
Job Summary:
Settlement Counsellor provides comprehensive services to various groups of newcomers (e.g., refugees, children & youth, LGBTQ2S+, seniors, and other) to facilitate their successful settlement and integration process in Canada.
Job Duties:
- Provide seamless services to clients and make efficient use of time.
- Assess clients’ needs in a holistic way (e.g., assess youth’s social, recreational, and academic needs)
- Determine the types of services required for a specific group of clients (e.g., specialized services for seniors).
- Develop a comprehensive settlement plan (i.e., setting realistic and achievable goals; outlining the plan of action including appropriate supports and referrals).
- Ensure client confidentiality.
- Provide clients with practical information, cultural and social orientation to life in Canada.
- Offer supportive counseling and referrals to appropriate services (e.g., health, education, legal, etc.) helping clients navigate various systems.
- Offer interpretation/translation services as required.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with various institutions, employers, landlords, schools, etc.
- Perform regular file reviews and follow up with clients to ensure effective outcomes.
- Complete necessary documentation (i.e., completing clients’ files) and reporting (e.g., weekly/monthly reports).
- Collects client feedback (e.g., through client surveys, workshop evaluations, etc.) to track outcomes of settlement services.
- Develop and deliver group orientation sessions on relevant settlement topics (e.g., living and working in Canada).
- Meet monthly target numbers and outputs.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Engage in outreach activities (e.g., ethno-cultural community groups and centres, faith organizations, educational institutions, etc.).
- Develop and maintain partnerships with other service providers to facilitate clients’ connection with the wider community (e.g., Settlement Workers in Schools, Free Play for Kids, etc.).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What This Job Requires:
- Diploma or degree in Human Services/Social Sciences/Social Work or equivalent
- 2 years of experience working with newcomers to Canada
- Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn new programs
- Certification through AAISA is considered an asset
- Clear and Current Drivers Abstract
- A vehicle and valid class 5 driver's license – requirement to transport clients in your personal vehicle
- Proof of Vehicle Insurance showing $2 million liability coverage
- Proof of Vehicle Registration for insured vehicle
- Vulnerable Sector Check from local RCMP or city police detachment
- Child Intervention Record Check
- In addition to English, you are required to be fluent in Arabic language
