JOB SUMMARY
Develops and coordinates communication strategies, plans and briefs. Plans, writes, edits and evaluates information required by employees, customers, and shareholders. Develops information in medium appropriate for delivery.
TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)
Researches, writes (includes theme or information development and design), edits and evaluates information required by employees, customers, and shareholders.
Analyzes information requirements and communication methods to determine type of information the audience requires and the best way to provide it. Works closely with information users, including advertising agencies, customers and governmental departments, to determine communication objectives and offer communication solutions that will meet objectives.
Acts as consultant for internal departments, analyzing information needs and developing documentation prototypes. Assists with editing, usability, and maintaining documentation standards.
Provides communication support as required for corporate initiatives and issues.
Ensures information developed meets quality standards for timelines, accuracy, completeness, consistency, medium and format.
Instructs trainee writers on departmental processes and procedures in research, writing, editing and evaluation techniques.
Supports customer issues.
Coordinates with internal primes and develops communications and positioning in response to customer issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Journalism, English, Technical Communication, Social Sciences or Business Administration/Commerce with 2 years:
Business communications experience
Technical writing experience
Knowledge-Centered Support principles and concepts experience
Thorough knowledge of internet technology, principles, applications and HTML language, including the tools used for developing Internet/Intranet documentation.
Demonstrated ability to research, write, edit and evaluate information.
Thorough knowledge of communication theory and application including usability, levels of edit, structured writing and gathering information.
Thorough knowledge of interviewing subject matter experts across corporate and governmental levels, and negotiating processes, information requirements, timelines and priorities.
Demonstrated ability to deal with changing priorities, multiple projects and changing deadlines and the ability to plan and organize in a self-directed workplace.
Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
Demonstrated ability to instruct or present information to others.
