Job Summary
Kat Studios is seeking a passionate, organized, and collaborative Theatre Director to lead and develop performers through the rehearsal and production process for our upcoming theatrical productions.
The Theatre Director will be responsible for guiding performers through character development, blocking, storytelling, scene work, and overall theatrical performance while creating a positive, professional, and encouraging rehearsal environment.
This role is ideal for an experienced theatre professional who is passionate about working with young performers and understands that a successful production is also an opportunity for performers to build confidence, develop their skills, and expand their performance tool belt.
The Director will work closely with the Artistic Director and Kat Studios team to bring the creative vision of the production to life while maintaining the educational and developmental focus of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate theatre rehearsals in a professional, organized, and engaging manner.
- Develop and communicate the directorial vision for the production.
- Block scenes and establish character relationships, movement, pacing, and storytelling.
- Coach performers in acting, character development, stage presence, and ensemble work.
- Provide constructive feedback and direction throughout the rehearsal process.
- Help performers develop their individual strengths while identifying areas for continued growth.
- Collaborate with musical, choreography, and production team members to create a cohesive production.
- Maintain a structured rehearsal environment that is respectful, inclusive, encouraging, and focused.
- Prepare performers for performances, including full runs, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.
- Communicate rehearsal expectations, attendance requirements, and production goals clearly to performers and families when appropriate.
- Monitor rehearsal progress and ensure production deadlines are met.
- Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director regarding casting, performer development, production decisions, and overall program goals.
- Support the educational component of Kat Studios by helping performers strengthen their acting and theatrical skills throughout the production process.
- Attend required production meetings and rehearsals.
- Address rehearsal challenges professionally and communicate concerns to the Artistic Director when necessary.
- Help create a safe and positive environment where performers feel challenged, supported, and encouraged to grow.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous directing experience in theatre, musical theatre, youth theatre, or a related performance environment.
- Strong understanding of acting, character development, blocking, storytelling, and stagecraft.
- Experience working with children, youth, teens, or emerging performers is an asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to give clear,
constructive, and age-appropriate direction.
- Ability to manage a rehearsal room confidently and professionally.
- Collaborative approach to working with artistic and production teams.
- Strong commitment to performer development and education.
- Ability to work within production timelines and meet rehearsal deadlines.
- Post-secondary theatre training or equivalent professional experience is considered an asset.

- Schedule: Primarily evenings, with additional rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances as required by the production schedule.
- Compensation: Based on experience and scope of the production.

Pay: $17.98-$20.00 per hour
