Our Infrastructure group is currently looking to add a Civil Superintendent to our growing team, based in Port Hawkesbury, NS.
Reporting to the Site Superintendent, the Civil Superintendent leads all heavy civil earthworks and site development scope on an active electrical infrastructure construction project.
This role owns the day-to-day execution of grading, haul road construction, subgrade preparation, and underground utility installation, directing crews and equipment to keep the civil work front on schedule and ahead of the trades that follow it.
Please Note: this is a field-based position that may require travel and camp accommodations, with shift schedules to be confirmed based on project needs.
Duties and Responsibilities Oversee civil operations through task delegation and productivity monitoring, ensuring team efficiency in project completion Manage and coordinate daily heavy civil construction activities, organizing job tasks to be completed in a productive, safe, and efficient manner in accordance with all company safety policies Interpret engineering drawings and designs to implement construction plans, ensuring all work is completed within project scope Administer and enforce the project''s QA/QC program across all civil work, confirming critical earthworks and grading activities are correctly performed Direct new haul road construction, subgrade preparation for concrete foundations and equipment pads, and ground preparation for crane pads Oversee final grade development and excavation for underground utilities and water lines, including culvert installation and all general earthworks associated with current site construction Organize contractor daily tasks with manpower and resource loading,
planning work scope sequencing across multiple concurrent work fronts Utilize manpower and equipment to full capacity across multiple simultaneous project activities Monitor progress against schedule and budget, maintaining daily communication with project leadership on risks and schedule impacts Maintain accurate site records including daily logs, productivity tracking, and QA/QC documentation Requirements 7 years of experience in a similar Civil Superintendent or Civil Construction Supervisor role on large-scale heavy civil or earthworks projects Demonstrated experience supervising crews of 20+ across earthworks, grading, and underground utility installation Proven ability to interpret engineered drawings and blueprints and translate them into field execution Experience with subgrade preparation, final grade development, excavation, and culvert/utility installation Working knowledge of QA/QC program administration for civil and earthworks scope Valid driver''s license Preferred Skills / Qualifications Experience on large-scale site development or grading projects involving engineered material placement (granular and rock-based fill) Experience with specialized grading attachments (, wrist-o-twist buckets, trenching buckets) for finish grade excavation Post-Secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field Benefits We offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including a 5% RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.
