We are seeking an energetic, passionate and dedicated Volunteer Basketball Coach/Trainer to train and inspire young athletes to develop their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball and experience working with students in a supportive and engaging environment. This role involves planning training sessions, teaching fundamental skills, and fostering a positive atmosphere for all participants.
This role is also open to high-school and college/university students!
This role will require candidates to commit to training program participants for 3 hours per week on Mondays from September to April.
Duties
- Develop and implement training plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
- Conduct training sessions that emphasize physical fitness, basketball techniques, and sportsmanship.
- Provide individual coaching to players to enhance their performance and confidence on the court.
- Monitor player progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
- Foster a safe and inclusive workplace for all participants, ensuring adherence to behavior management practices.
- Collaborate with other coaches/trainers and staff to promote a holistic approach to athlete development.
- Engage with parents and guardians to communicate player progress and team goals.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in training/coaching/playing basketball (required)
- Strong teaching skills with the ability to connect with students of various ages and skill levels.
- Experience working with children is a plus
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
- A background in physical education or related fields is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate young athletes effectively.
- A passion for sports, teaching, and mentoring youth in their athletic journey.
