Position Summary:

- The Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County Branch seeks a Mental Health & Addiction Worker – Crisis Support in accordance with the agency’s policies, standards, and guidelines, is responsible providing immediate, client-centred intervention to individuals and families experiencing mental health crises. The role involves responding to crisis calls, delivering mobile crisis support, conducting risk assessments, and developing stabilization and short-term care plans. They offer counselling, de-escalation, and practical supports, including assistance with daily living and access to crisis beds when needed. The position also focuses on coordinating services, advocating for clients, and connecting them to community, healthcare, and support resources to ensure safety, stabilization, and continuity of care, while collaborating with team members, first responders, and community partners.

What You'll Do:

- Respond to crisis calls and service requests using a triage approach to assess urgency, prioritize response, and provide appropriate intervention, support, and referral, including in complex, unpredictable, and high-risk situations.
- Provide mobile crisis intervention services to individuals, families, and natural supports, utilizing assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, and crisis resolution strategies.
- Deliver client-centred services within a high-acuity, 24/7 workplace, including ongoing risk assessment, crisis intervention, collaboration with emergency and community service partners, and the exercise of sound clinical judgment and independent decision-making.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and provide suicide intervention, safety planning, and appropriate follow-up, consultation, and referral services.




- Conduct screening, intake, and comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, including facilitating admissions to crisis beds and developing immediate stabilization and service plans.
- Deliver direct, client-centred support, including counselling, crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, life skills teaching, and assistance with activities of daily living.
- Support clients in crisis beds/residential settings, including daily living support, maintaining a safe environment, and contributing to household operations.
- Develop and implement coping strategies, stabilization, and relapse prevention plans, and provide short-term follow-up and aftercare support.
- Facilitate access to internal and external services and supports, including referrals to CMHA SCB programs to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide client advocacy and system navigation, including supporting access to services and promoting client rights.
- Collaborate and maintain positive working relationships with community partners, first responders, and culturally diverse organizations to ensure coordinated, responsive, and inclusive care.
- Participate in team decision-making, program operations, and service planning, including contributing to client care and program protocols.
- Receive and provide timely crisis response to incoming calls from individuals and community resource agencies, 211, 988, and including internal CMHA SCB programs
- Provide timely crisis response to direct referrals and transfers received from hospitals, police and paramedic services to effectively ensure safety, stabilization and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with management and team members to ensure efficient, coordinated, and client‑centered service delivery.
- Participate actively in service planning, team meetings, supervision and/or performance and development meetings, committees, and agency‑wide initiatives.
- Represent the agency’s mission, values, and philosophy in all professional interactions and engage in ongoing professional development.
- Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services, contributing to effective and responsive service delivery.
- Comply with all agency policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures, and participate in their ongoing improvement.




- Provide transportation for clients within the community and, on occasion, outside the local area, in accordance with agency policies.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and supporting recent staff, students, or volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or organizational leadership.

Required Qualifications:

- 1 - 3 years experience in the human services field.
- Must have one of the following:
- Human Service Worker, Social Service Worker, Addictions Diploma, or
- University degree in a human service related field, preferably Social Work.
- Experience in mental health and/or addictions (community-based setting preferred).
- Must have access to a vehicle to transport clients, a valid Ontario driver’s license, and adequate automobile insurance.
- Submission of a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), including a Criminal Record Check (CRC) in good standing.
- Fluency in French or another second language would be an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Salary Scale:

- MHAW: $61,600- $70,000 *per annum

Hours of Work:

- Rotational shift work based on a seven (7) day staffing schedule.
- Crisis Services operates twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
- Able to work within a flexible framework to respond to client needs.
