About The Gourmet Warehouse
The Gourmet Warehouse is a Vancouver specialty food and housewares destination serving home cooks and culinary professionals. We are hiring a reliable Seasonal Receiver to support our busy fall and holiday season by accurately checking, recording, unpacking, and organizing incoming deliveries while helping keep our warehouse safe, efficient, and organized.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Inventory & Logistics Supervisor, the Seasonal Receiver supports day-to-day receiving operations at our warehouse. You will work closely with delivery personnel and team members to verify shipments, organize products for receiving, manage packaging and recycling, and assist with the safe movement of goods between the warehouse and retail store.
What You Will Do
· Check incoming deliveries for damage and verify case counts; promptly communicate delivery issues to the supervisor.
· Accurately record delivery details and read shipping labels, Bills of Lading, product numbers, barcodes, and related information.
· Unpack and organize deliveries in preparation for receiving, with close attention to product identification and efficient organization.
· Remove excess cardboard and plastic packaging and maintain recycling in the appropriate bins between scheduled pickups.
· Assist with cardboard and plastic disposal during recycling pickups.
· Move products and supplies safely between the warehouse and retail store, including wrapping and securing metro racks and pallets and loading/unloading the truck.
· Assist permanent team members with processing large deliveries and keep department supplies stocked and maintained.
· Use, care for, and maintain required tools and equipment safely, including forklifts, manual pallet jacks, metro racks, and the delivery truck.
· Follow proper lifting techniques and immediately report safety concerns, violations, hazards, or equipment issues.
· Communicate effectively with team members and maintain a calm, qualified, and respectful approach during busy periods.
What You Bring
· Reliability, punctuality, and a positive, team-oriented approach.
· Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with delivery personnel, supervisors, and team members.
· Ability to read and interpret shipping labels and Bills of Lading and to record delivery information clearly and accurately by hand.
· Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
· Valid forklift license.
· Valid driver's license and ability to safely drive a delivery truck.
· Steel-toed footwear.
· Legal authorization to work in Canada.
Physical & Safety Requirements
· Ability to lift, carry, walk with, and shelve approximately 10-30 lb boxes for extended periods.
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and reach above and below shoulder height.
· Ability to reposition an empty pallet by hand and safely push a loaded metro rack.
· Ability to climb a ladder and use a stepstool safely.
· Ability to safely operate a manual pallet jack and other equipment required for the position.
· Commitment to company health and safety procedures, training, and proper equipment use.
What Success Looks Like
· Deliveries are checked, recorded, unpacked, and organized accurately and efficiently.
· Damages,
shortages, delivery issues, and safety concerns are identified and reported promptly.
· Products and supplies move safely between the warehouse and retail store without unnecessary delays.
· Recycling, packaging, and work areas remain organized and clear.
· Tools and equipment are used safely and maintained appropriately.
· You are a dependable team member who supports smooth receiving operations during the busy seasonal period.
Working Conditions
· Seasonal position running from September through December, with the final work date in the 3rd-4th week of December as operational needs dictate.
· Primary work site is the receiving warehouse; secondary work site is the retail store backroom. The two locations are within walking distance of one another.
· Schedule is expected to remain consistent week to week but requires evening and weekend availability. Preference is given to candidates with open availability.
