The Position

Under the general supervision of the Wellness Centre Manager, the position works with staff and agencies within the Nation and outside the community to develop and implement holistic recreation programs. The position is responsible for creating effective and creative recreation programs for children, youth, adults, and Elders.

This is a temporary position through December 18, 2026.

The Candidate

- Develop, market and promote, implement, and ensure the delivery of a wide range of recreational-based health and community development programs for specific groups and individuals. Develop and use logical models and work plans to guide program activities. Organize, implement and evaluate pilot projects within the community.
- Ensure programming links with existing Health Centre, Social Development, Child & Family Support Services, and Community Member Services activities to ensure broad application to a variety of individuals and groups, make effective use of resources, and maximize uptake.
- Manage proposal development and secure funding for programming. This includes writing the proposals, obtaining and securing funding, monitoring basic budgets and program expenditures, ensuring compliance with allocated funds and reporting functions for programs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate holistic programs in adherence to Nation and department policies, strategies, and procedures and the determinants of health, while recognizing that not all clients or target groups have the same needs. Prepare regular and ad hoc program reports for the Manager's review.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers to support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the programs offered. Help the community recognize the benefit of volunteerism and the importance of community “buy-in”.
- Oversee, manage and implement the Nations Recreation Grant Program.
- Ensure services are delivered in a manner that maintains excellent Member relations,



including Member advocacy to ensure respectful and culturally sensitive services through other service providers.
- Prepare a variety of monthly reports detailing activities, statistics on Members served, budget variances, progress reports and program planning for coming months’ activities.
- Plan and manage a comprehensive community-wide recreation program including athletic leagues, instructional programs, day camps and special events for all age categories. Provide activities that support youth leadership.
- Perform other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

- Diploma in Recreational Leadership, or relevant Health/Social Science/humanities field, with recent relevant experience in community health-related work such as developing and implementing community-based health/social programs. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
- Experience in recreation program development, implementation and review.
- Experience writing and managing proposals is an asset.
- Experience in health promotion, holistic health, and population health approaches, including the broad determinants of health, is an asset. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental Community Health Programs.
- Knowledge of concepts, principles, practices and theories of wellness programs.
- Solid knowledge and intermediate skill set related to Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe platforms
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work a flexible 37.5 hours per week as set by the Recreation Centre in response to community needs.
- CPR and First Aid certificates are mandatory, or willingness to acquire within three (3) months of the date of hire.
- An acceptable criminal records check. A valid Driver's License (Class 4 desirable, Class 5 required).
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle.
- This position requires flexible working hours to arrange and participate in evening and weekend recreational activities, including workshops, traditional healing, sewing circles, Women’s retreats, and other recreational/health events.
