About us

Fence & Post is a small, independent restaurant in the heart of historic downtown Cochrane. We make our entire menu from scratch—from sourdough bread and ice cream to our house-cured meats—and use as much local produce as possible.

Our team shares a commitment to teamwork, guest focus, integrity, recognition and social responsibility. We’re looking for an experienced server and bartender who brings warm hospitality, robust service skills and a dependable approach to morning shifts.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager on Duty, you will provide attentive table service, prepare and serve beverages, and help keep service running smoothly. You should be comfortable managing a section and working behind the bar in a busy restaurant.

- Welcome guests, take accurate orders and make thoughtful food and beverage recommendations.
- Learn our scratch-made menu and explain ingredients, preparation methods and daily specials.
- Communicate allergies and dietary requests accurately to the kitchen.
- Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages consistently.
- Check on guests throughout their visit and address concerns promptly.
- Process payments accurately and handle cash responsibly.
- Clear and reset tables, maintain clean work areas and complete shift duties.
- Work closely with the kitchen and service team to support timely, coordinated service.
- Follow responsible alcohol service practices and applicable food safety and workplace requirements.

Required qualifications

- Previous hands-on experience in both restaurant table service and bartending.

Retail or general customer service experience alone does not qualify.
- Availability for morning shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Valid ProServe certification.
- Experience using restaurant point-of-sale systems and processing payments.
- Solid knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine and responsible beverage service.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to guest care.
- Ability to manage multiple tables, prioritize tasks and stay organized under pressure.
- A reliable, punctual and collaborative approach to work.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
