Title and Authority

Job Title: CNC Machinist

Reporting Structure: This role reports to the President. This role has no supervisory or managerial authority and no direct reports.

General Description of the Role

As a CNC Machinist, you will play an integral role on the shop floor, focusing on precision machining processes including turning, milling, and honing. You will carry out a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall success of the company. Your responsibilities will include not only operating CNC machinery but also helping to continually improve our processes.

Role Accountabilities

- Setup and operate CNC machinery, ensuring efficient operation and adherence to specified tolerances.
- Conduct routine quality checks to ensure all parts meet quality standards and report any issues to the production coordinator.
- Meeting production targets on assigned jobs.




- Collaborate with team members to improve process efficiency and production goals.
- Maintain safety standards and cleanliness in the machining area and participate in safety training.
- Engage in initiatives to adopt new technologies, contributing to shop floor development.
- Communicating clearly with coordinators and managers on job status and issues.

Specific Tasks

- Install and adjust tools, fixtures, and workpieces on CNC machines according to the provided blueprints and technical drawings.
- Safely operate CNC turning, milling, and honing machines to manufacture parts as specified in job orders.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.;
- Prove out programs and complete first-article setups.
- Hand off jobs to operators with measuring tools set up, a walkthrough of the quality check procedure, key offsets to monitor, and relevant tool life data.
- Conduct regular maintenance checks and perform necessary regular maintenance to keep machinery in optimal condition.
- Record material heat numbers and other traceability information as required.
- Continuously monitor the output of CNC machines during operations to ensure adherence to quality standards and adjust as necessary.
- Use precision measuring instruments to inspect machined components and ensure they meet all dimensional specifications.

Skills and Experience

- Able to stand for extended periods and work in a shop environment.
- Capable of lifting 40lbs unaided.
- Proficient in reading and applying GD&T.;
- Skilled with precision measuring tools, including micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and thread gauges.
- Experienced in setting up work holding, fixtures, and tooling for complex parts.
- Knowledgeable in machining a range of materials, including alloy steels, stainless, cast iron, and exotic alloys.
- Familiar with thread milling, single-point threading, and hydraulic port features (SAE, ORB, NPT).
- Knowledgeable in speeds, feeds, and tool selection to optimize cycle time and tool life.
- A High school diploma or GED certificate
- Journeyperson or Red Seal Machinist certification, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of CNC setup and operation experience.
- Experience in hydraulic component manufacturing is an asset.
- This position requires 100% on site work, with the ability to sit, stand, and lift for extended periods and exposure to noise.
