About 12 Neighbours

12 Neighbours Community Inc. is a human development organization helping people overcome poverty, homelessness, and other barriers to full, healthy, independent lives — and helping build a healthy, flourishing community. Our approach is trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, identity-rooted, person-centred, and strengths-based (T.R.I.P.S.), and it shows up in the way we support our neighbours and the way we work together as a team. We lead with our core values — Safety First, Wise Stewardship, Development, Gentleness, and Joy — in everything we do.

About Neighbourly Homes

Neighbourly Homes is a fully managed transitional housing community developed by 12 Neighbours Community Inc. We provide more than a place to stay — we foster a community where people can reconnect with stability, dignity, and belonging. Our Saint John site is a micro-home courtyard designed to offer low-barrier, wraparound support to individuals exiting homelessness. Relationships, routine, and respect are at the heart of what we do.

About the Role

The Community Facilitator plays a vital role in keeping the rhythm of the community steady. Working in collaboration with our full-time team, you'll provide consistent, on-the-ground presence and support — helping ensure the site is calm, clean, safe, and relationally grounded.

This role is a good fit for someone who's reliable, present, comfortable with people navigating complex realities, and can offer support and structure without judgment.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement & Participant Growth

- Support residents in moving toward stable, permanent housing through positive, goal-focused conversation.
- Listen, validate, and celebrate resident progress; learn residents' goals, needs, and interests and share what you learn with the leadership team.
- Build connection without giving cigarettes, tobacco, or other incentives — a strict no-smoking/vaping policy applies in the courtyard and all common areas.

Site Cleanliness & Safety Monitoring

- Conduct daily indoor and outdoor sweeps of common spaces, unit exteriors, courtyard, walkways, and entryways.
- Record findings in the Daily Walkthrough Log and flag maintenance or cleanliness issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
- Support residents in finding safe storage solutions for large or excess items to keep the courtyard clear and safe.

Food & Wellness

- Distribute meals and snack packs directly to residents, ensuring same-day delivery.
- If a resident is not home, safely leave the meal inside their unit — meals are not stored in the communal fridge.
- Report any food or wellness-related concerns to leadership.

Guest Unit Protocol

- Ensure guests sign in at Admin and pre/post-check guest units before and after use.
- Confirm visits occur only in the designated unit with the door closed.
- Report concerns or misuse to your Supervisor/Manager.

Room Wellness Checks

- Complete a full room wellness check weekly for each unit.
- Document outcomes in the Room Wellness Check Form and escalate concerns as needed.

Communication & Reporting

- Provide daily updates through the shared team spreadsheet.
- Notify leadership of urgent issues via SIGNAL and submit an Incident Report.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation practices.

Workplace Care & Organization

- Tidy stock rooms, the gathering lounge, and the office before shift end.

Professional Boundaries & Ethical Conduct

- Maintain healthy, skilled boundaries with residents at all times.
- Do not enter personal relationships or communications outside work, or give/lend money, items, or transportation.
- Maintain confidentiality and a professional tone; document and escalate boundary concerns immediately.

Admin Building Security & Staff Coordination

- Ensure the Admin Building and office are never left unattended and doors remain locked at all times.
- Coordinate coverage with shift partners before leaving the Admin area.
