The Opportunity

We're looking for experienced Service Plumbers and Service HVAC/R Technicians to join our Edmonton, AB team.

We're looking for the technician customers and teammates ask for by name — someone who can walk into a mechanical room, assess the situation, diagnose the problem and confidently determine the right solution.

This role will focus on residential, commercial and multi-family service work and will involve diagnosing, servicing, repairing and maintaining a wide range of plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, heating and mechanical systems.

You'll work independently in customers' homes, commercial buildings and mechanical rooms while taking ownership of your work from diagnosis through completion. The ideal technician can think on their feet, solve problems under pressure, communicate clearly with customers and work through challenging or unusual issues.

What You'll Do

- Diagnose, service, repair and maintain residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC/R systems
- Troubleshoot furnaces, heating systems, boilers, hydronic systems and other mechanical equipment
- Diagnose and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Service rooftop units, make-up air units and other commercial HVAC equipment
- Service and maintain hot water tanks and on-demand hot water systems
- Troubleshoot pumps, valves, controls and gas systems
- Perform preventative maintenance and service programs




- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, system layouts, manuals and work orders
- Troubleshoot and identify issues appropriate to your experience and certification level
- Determine appropriate repair solutions and communicate recommendations clearly
- Maintain accurate job documentation and required paperwork
- Communicate job progress, deficiencies, additional work and concerns
- Coordinate with dispatch, customers, supervisors and other trades as applicable
- Maintain tools, equipment, company vehicles and work areas
- Complete work in accordance with applicable codes, regulations and Total standards
- Follow company safety policies and procedures
- Represent Total professionally with customers, contractors and other trades
- Build positive customer relationships and deliver a professional service experience
- Support and contribute to the overall success of the team

What We're Looking For

- Journeyperson certification in Plumbing, HVAC, Refrigeration or a related trade
- Valid driver's licence
- Proven service and troubleshooting experience
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Experience working independently in customers' homes and commercial facilities
- Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations and safe work practices
- Strong professional communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned service calls
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Organized and accountable for assigned work
- Comfortable using mobile applications for job documentation
- Ability to think critically and troubleshoot under pressure
- Commitment to secure work practices
- Willingness to continue learning and developing technical skills
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position

Experience That Would Be an Asset

- Commercial and multi-family service work
- Furnaces and heating systems
- HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Boilers and hydronic heating systems
- Rooftop units and make-up air units
- Hot water tanks and on-demand systems
- Pumps, valves and controls
- Gas systems
- Preventative maintenance programs
- Mechanical drawings and system layouts
- Customer relationship management and service communication
- Gasfitter certification
- Refrigeration certification
- Additional manufacturer or equipment training

This is a field-based trade position. Work environments may include residential homes, commercial buildings, multi-family properties, mechanical rooms, rooftops, construction sites and outdoor environments depending on the service call.

Competitive wages based on experience, certification and qualifications

Compensation is determined based on trade certification, relevant service experience, technical capability and the requirements of the position.
