Position Overview:
As an Estimator in the boat building industry, you will play a critical role in evaluating and analyzing project costs, ensuring accurate estimates for materials, labor, and overall production costs. You will work closely with the production, engineering, and sales teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for aluminum boat construction projects.
Review and analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine material and labor requirements.
Contact vendors and calculate costs for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment needed for boat production.
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials and components.
Build estimating tool and process
Work closely with the design and production teams to ensure estimates align with project timelines and specifications.
Provide accurate and timely estimates for recent builds
Maintain a comprehensive database of historical cost data to support future estimations.
Assist with identifying cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Develop relationships with key stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and clients.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as an estimator in the boat building, marine,
or manufacturing industry (preferably aluminum boats).
Strong understanding of boat construction processes, materials, and labor involved.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
Experience/Knowledge of SAM.gov website and Canadian equivalent CCC.ca are definite assets
Familiarity with cost estimation software (e.g., Excel, Sage Estimating, etc.).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with a strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of safety standards and industry regulations.
Degree or certification in a related field (e.g., engineering, marine design, construction management) is a plus.
