PARALEGAL - Casual | Remote

AVS Legal is looking for a Paralegal contractor to join our team. This is a casual, remote opportunity providing legal administrative support to a network of lawyers whose practices focus on Residential Real Estate and Corporate Law.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with at least two years of legal assistant experience, ideally within a Residential Real Estate and Corporate Law practice. The successful candidate will be able to balance multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Legal Document & File Management

- Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and closing reports using lawyer oral instructions and established precedents.
- Open and close client files in accordance with established intake and file-closing procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized digital client, matter, and document records.
- Complete closing reports and ensure required file documentation is maintained.
- Track and calendar key dates and deadlines, including limitation periods and closing dates, to ensure timely action on all files.
- Handle client and matter information with discretion, in accordance with confidentiality and privacy requirements.

Client & Matter Coordination

- Manage client inquiries, communications, and follow-up to ensure timely and professional service.
- Coordinate requests and maintain accurate workflow updates to monitor progress, deadlines, and outstanding items.
- Liaise with external parties, such as other law firms, courts, land titles offices, and financial institutions, as required to progress matters.(does this role do this?)
- Support the efficient flow of information between clients, lawyers,



and the team.

Team & Practice Support

- Provide day-to-day administrative and paralegal support to the legal team.
- Support efficient systems, processes, and file management practices, including precedent maintenance.
- Assist with billing, time entry, or invoicing support as required.
- Provide assistance to team members as required to support the effective operation of the practice.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

- Legal Assistant Diploma from an accredited college.
- Minimum of two (2) years of legal assistant experience.
- Strong background in Residential Real Estate and Corporation Law is considered a priority asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong overall technical skills.
- Proficiency in Prolegis and Lawyer Done Deal considered an asset, but training is available.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and proofreading abilities.

- Primarily sedentary, remote work involving extended periods of computer and screen-based work.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and urgent deadlines.
- Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and last-minute requests in a dynamic legal environment.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented workplace.
- Professional, accountable, responsive, and proactive approach to work.
