Civil Structural Designer

Industry: Midstream Oil and Gas
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Contract: One year with solid potential for extension
Start Date: As soon as possible
Work Model: Hybrid – in office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; remote Wednesday and Friday
Rate: $62.50 per hour

Position Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Civil/Structural Designer to support the engineering and operations teams of a large midstream company.

This position will support pipeline and facility projects by developing, updating, and maintaining civil and structural drawings. The successful candidate will be highly proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, with experience translating engineering information, field redlines, and site data into accurate design documentation.

The project portfolio will initially include smaller facility modifications such as drag-reducing agent additions, valve replacements, pipe reroutes, and related civil and structural work. The designer will work closely with civil/structural engineers and coordinate with mechanical and electrical designers.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, revise, and maintain civil and structural drawings for pipeline and facility projects.
- Translate engineering concepts, field redlines, project information, and review comments into accurate CAD drawings.
- Complete backdrafting and drawing corrections identified by engineering and technical review teams.
- Incorporate site markups, photographs, survey information, and as-built data into final deliverables.
- Produce and update site plans, grading plans, plot plans, structural layouts, foundations, equipment supports, and related civil drawings.
- Support drawings associated with facility additions, valve replacements, pipe reroutes, and small capital projects.
- Assist with the preparation of Issued for Construction and As-Built drawing packages.
- Ensure drawings comply with internal drafting standards, local regulatory requirements, and applicable industry practices.




- Maintain drawing revisions, document-control records, and project histories.
- Review incomplete or evolving design information and work with engineers to resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate with civil/structural engineers, mechanical and electrical designers, project managers, field teams, operations, maintenance, and external service providers.
- Support multiple projects and drawing requests while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

- Minimum five years of civil/structural drafting or design experience, preferably within the oil and gas or midstream sector.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Experience updating drawings from field redlines and engineering-review comments.
- Experience producing civil and structural drawings for industrial facilities, pipelines, or infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret field information, site photographs, survey data, technical documents, and engineering markups.
- Familiarity with site plans, grading, foundations, structural layouts, equipment supports, and facility modifications.
- Knowledge of applicable Alberta codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with pipeline and facility assets is preferred.
- Experience with P&IDs;, plot plans, piping layouts, or instrumentation drawings is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with the drawing standards and systems of a large pipeline or midstream operator is considered an asset.
- Experience leading or coordinating design activities is a strong asset.
- A professional engineering designation is not required.
