Driller / Locator – Horizontal Directional Drilling

Experienced HDD Driller / Locator Wanted

We are looking for an experienced Driller / Locator to join our telecommunications construction team in Nisku, Alberta.

This is a skilled, hands-on field position for someone with strong Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) experience who understands underground utility construction and takes pride in operating equipment safely, efficiently and professionally.

Our crews work on telecommunications infrastructure projects throughout Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating HDD equipment, accurately locating and tracking the drill head, identifying existing utilities, and supporting the crew through all stages of the installation.

Out-of-town work is a regular requirement of this position.

What You'll Do

- Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently
- Locate and track the drill head during HDD operations
- Complete job layout and verify existing underground utilities
- Use HDD guidance and locating systems
- Drive survey and tool trucks and tow trailers
- Support utility investigation and site preparation
- Set up and maintain traffic control
- Secure excavations and maintain a safe work site
- Connect conduits and install telecommunications infrastructure
- Operate construction equipment as required
- Assist with material handling, cable placement, backfilling and site restoration




- Provide hands-on labour support to the crew, including sweeping, shoveling and loading materials
- Maintain clean and organized work sites, vehicles and equipment
- Work with the crew to complete projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard

What We're Looking For

Required

- Previous experience operating HDD equipment and/or locating for directional drilling
- Experience working around underground utilities
- Strong understanding of safe excavation and utility construction practices
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors
- Willingness to travel and work out of town
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends
- Dependable, safety-conscious and reliable work habits
- Stable employment history and strong work ethic

Preferred

- 5–10 years of telecommunications construction experience
- Experience with DigiTrak, Falcon F5 and/or Subsite HDD guidance systems
- Previous experience as an HDD Driller, Locator or similar role
- Experience with telecommunications or fibre-optic infrastructure projects
- Experience operating other construction equipment
