Position Summary

Solid Rock Steel is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee structural steel fabrication and installation projects from contract award through project closeout. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing multiple projects while ensuring safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives are achieved.

The Project Manager will work closely with customers, consultants, detailers, purchasing, production, quality control, and site teams to proactively manage project execution. A key responsibility of this role is developing and maintaining detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project (or equivalent project management software) to monitor progress, identify risks, communicate milestones, and drive successful project delivery.

The ideal candidate is an organized leader with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a solid understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

· Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software.

· Establish project milestones, critical paths, procurement activities, fabrication sequencing, shipping schedules, and site installation timelines.

· Monitor schedule performance and proactively identify potential delays and mitigation strategies.

· Provide regular schedule updates to internal teams and customers.

· Track project changes, RFIs, and schedule impacts.

Project Management

· Manage projects from award through closeout.

· Ensure project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and customer expectations are achieved.

· Coordinate engineering, detailing, material procurement, fabrication, quality control, coatings, shipping, logistics, crane planning, and site installation.





· Review shop drawings and material purchases for compliance with project specifications.

· Coordinate drawing reviews during the IFA stage to improve constructability and fabrication efficiency.

· Manage project risks and resolve issues before they impact production or schedule.

Commercial Management

· Manage project change orders from pricing through execution and final collection.

· Monitor project costs and profitability.

· Communicate schedule and budget impacts to customers and internal stakeholders.

· Assist with contract interpretation and administration.

Leadership & Communication

· Lead internal project meetings.

· Coordinate work between detailing, purchasing, production, quality control, and field operations.

· Assign and monitor project responsibilities based on team workload and priorities.

· Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.

· Maintain clear and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Continuous Improvement

· Participate in process improvement initiatives.

· Conduct project closeout reviews and capture lessons learned.

· Support the continued development of project management standards and scheduling best practices.

Qualifications

Required

· Minimum 5 years of Project Management experience in the structural steel fabrication and installation industry.

· Robust understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication, coatings, shipping, and erection.





· Experience developing and managing project schedules using Microsoft Project or similar project scheduling software (Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Asta Powerproject, etc.).

· Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

· Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook), Bluebeam, Procore, and other project management software.

· Permanent Resident or legally authorized to work in Canada.

· Valid BC Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

· PMP designation.

· Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related discipline.

· Knowledge of CCDC contracts and contract administration.

· Steel detailing experience or familiarity with Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, SDS/2, or similar software.

· Experience with Lean Construction or continuous improvement practices.
