MAC Reno Design Build

Victoria

WHO WE ARE

MAC Reno-Design-Build is a growing Residential and light commercial, design and build company operating across multiple entities — MAC Reno-Design-Build, MAC Island Construction, and Coastal Accents Millwork. We build and strengthen community through world-class craftsmanship, trusted partnerships, and a team that is humble, hungry, and smart.

We are a values-driven company. Collaboration, curiosity, integrity, and C.A.R.E. — Create A Referable Experience — are not words on a wall. They are how we make decisions, how we hold each other accountable, and how we show up for our clients and trade partners every day.

This is a shared-services Finance seat supporting all three operating companies. You will work closely with the Controller and other members of the Finance and Operations teams to keep the group's day-to-day accounting accurate, current, and audit-ready.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a motivated, analytical, and systems-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a broad, hands-on accounting position within a growing design-build construction company. The role begins with significant responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash transactions, reconciliations, capital and cost tracking, and other day-to-day accounting activities, while progressively developing broader responsibility across the full accounting cycle, month-end close, financial reporting, and analysis.

Because MAC operates in a project-based construction setting, this position requires more than transaction processing. You must understand how transactions flow through the organization and ultimately affect project costs, cash, the general ledger, financial reporting, and business decisions. The role also supports payroll from an accounting perspective, including review and posting of payroll journal entries, payroll accruals, reconciliations, labour-to-job-cost posting, and related month-end accounting .

The right person for this role is curious, analytical, and comfortable with technology — someone who asks questions, investigates discrepancies, and looks for better ways to get work done. A professional accounting designation is not required; the role is particularly well suited to someone pursuing, or considering pursuing, the CPA designation.

ROLE AT A GLANCE

Reports To : Controller

Seat: Finance Team Member

Relationship: Works closely with the Controller day-to-day and collaborates with Finance, Project Managers, external customers, and other departments across the organization

Entities: The MAC Group — MAC Reno-Design-Build, MAC Island Construction, and Coastal Accents Millwork

Location: Victoria, BC (Remote/Hybrid)

Employment: Full-Time

Salary Range: $68,000 – $78,000 annually

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

Accounts Payable & Vendor Accounting

You review and process vendor invoices using TrailD, ensuring accurate coding, documentation, approvals and accounting-period cut-off. You investigate discrepancies, duplicate invoices, missing approvals and other exceptions, maintain accurate vendor records, process employee expenses and corporate credit cards, and prepare payment batches for review and authorization.

Accounts Receivable & Cash

You record and apply customer payments, investigate unapplied or incorrectly applied receipts, support AR aging and collections, and reconcile cash and banking transactions. You help ensure cash and customer-account information is accurate, current and properly supported.

General Accounting & Month-End

You support the full accounting cycle, including general ledger accounting, journal entries, bank, credit-card and balance-sheet reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, capital assets, depreciation and supporting schedules. You investigate reconciling items and root causes, support GST/PST and year-end requirements,

and progressively take on greater responsibility for month-end close, reporting and analysis.

Systems, Workflow & Business Process Improvement

A key part of this role is helping MAC continuously improve how Finance works. You develop a strong understanding of our Finance workflows and systems, identify duplicate entry, manual workarounds, data-quality issues and inefficient processes, and help document, standardize and improve them. You use Excel, data analytics, automation and appropriate AI tools to improve accounting processes, reconciliations, reporting and analysis.

Internal Controls & Financial Integrity

You follow established approval and segregation-of-duties requirements, maintain complete supporting documentation and audit trails, and identify unusual transactions, control gaps and recurring process issues. You investigate issues within your responsibilities, follow them through to resolution and escalate material matters to the Controller as appropriate.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

● Invoices are captured, coded, and matched accurately; payments are prepared, never released solo.

● Receipts are applied promptly; AR aging is current; daily cash is visible to the Controller.

● Reconciliations and accounting schedules are complete and current — no unexplained balances and no surprises at month-end.

● Practical process improvements, automation, and AI opportunities are identified and implemented — less manual work, duplicate entry, and recurring rework.

● Segregation of duties and financial controls are followed on every transaction; issues are raised and resolved — not worked around.

MEETINGS & CADENCE

● Weekly 1:1 with the Controller — priorities, coaching, and open items.

● Monthly Close Cycle — AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and close support on the Controller's checklist deadlines.

● Ad Hoc — system testing, process improvement initiatives, and audit support.

TECHNOLOGY YOU WILL WORK IN

● Acumatica — primary ERP and accounting system for the MAC Group.

● TrailD — AP automated invoice processing and approvals.

● Buildertrend — project management platform; source of job cost and WIP data.

● Lumber Payroll system — labour, payroll and job-cost information.

● Google Sheets and other analytical tools — reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.

● Banking portals — daily cash and deposit management.

● Google Suite — Email, spreadsheets, shared drive storage and document control.

● ChatGPT/Claude — AI integration and automation.

● Demonstrated interest or experience in data analytics, financial reporting, process automation, AI or other emerging business technologies, and an interest in applying these tools to improve Finance processes, controls, accuracy and efficiency.

● Direct exposure to the full accounting cycle, from transaction processing through to month-end close, financial reporting and analysis .
