Wenzel Industries is seeking an experienced MPI Level II NDT Inspector to join our Edmonton service department.
This is a hands-on Quality position within an API-certified precision manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI/MT/LPI/DS-1) on machined components and downhole tooling and ensuring products meet applicable API requirements, approved NDT procedures, engineering specifications, customer requirements, and acceptance criteria.
We are specifically looking for an inspector who has previous experience working with API procedures and within an API-controlled manufacturing or quality environment.
If you have strong MPI technical skills, understand the importance of traceability and documentation, and are comfortable working in a precision machining environment where product integrity is critical, we would like to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
As our MPI Level II NDT Inspector, you will:
· Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI/MT/LPI/DS-1) on machined components, downhole tools, raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products.
· Set up and independently perform inspections within the scope of your Level II certification and Company authorization.
· Perform wet fluorescent and/or visible magnetic particle inspection as required.
· Interpret and evaluate indications in accordance with approved procedures and applicable acceptance criteria.
· Identify relevant discontinuities including cracks, laps, seams, inclusions, forging defects, grinding cracks, and other material or manufacturing defects.
· Review and follow approved API and NDT procedures, specifications, drawings, work instructions, and inspection plans.
· Verify that the correct revision of controlled documentation is being used.
· Complete required equipment and system-performance checks.
· Monitor inspection conditions including UV-A intensity, ambient visible light, magnetic field direction, and equipment performance.
· Perform demagnetization and residual-field verification as required.
· Maintain accurate and complete NDT inspection reports.
· Ensure product identification and traceability are maintained throughout the inspection process.
· Identify, segregate, and place non-conforming product on hold when requirements are not met.
· Initiate or support Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
· Work closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Service and Engineering to address inspection and product-quality concerns.
· Maintain inspection equipment, records, and work areas in an audit-ready condition.
· Support internal, customer, registrar, and API audits as required.
· Provide technical guidance to Level I personnel where appropriate.
· Follow all Company health, safety, environmental,
and quality procedures.
What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications
· Current Level II certification/qualification in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI) acceptable under the Company’s NDT certification program and applicable customer requirements.
· Previous hands-on experience performing MPI/MT inspections in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
· Previous experience working with API procedures and within an API-certified or API-controlled manufacturing environment.
· Experience inspecting machined, forged, heat-treated, oilfield, or other high-integrity components.
· Strong understanding of Magnetic Particle Testing principles, techniques, equipment, and limitations.
· Ability to interpret and apply NDT procedures and acceptance criteria.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and manufacturing documentation.
· Experience maintaining inspection records and product traceability.
· Understanding of non-conformance identification and control.
· Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· CGSB/NRCan Level 2 – Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
· Experience working with API Specification Q1 quality-management requirements.
· Previous experience in an oilfield equipment, downhole-tool, precision machining, or similar manufacturing setting.
· Additional Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Level II certification.
· Experience supporting API, customer, or quality-system audits.
· Familiarity with applicable API, ASTM, ASME, and customer-specific NDT requirements.
· Experience performing dimensional inspection using precision measuring equipment.

Inspection Authority
Our NDT Inspectors play an important role in protecting product integrity.
The MPI Level II NDT Inspector has the authority to stop or place product on hold when inspection results do not meet applicable procedures or acceptance criteria.
Production schedules and delivery requirements do not override established quality, API, or NDT requirements.
Work Environment
This is an on-site position within our Edmonton service facility. The role involves working around CNC and conventional manufacturing equipment and may include exposure to industrial noise, metalworking fluids, NDT inspection media, material-handling equipment, and UV-A inspection equipment.
The position requires the ability to perform detailed visual inspection, stand for extended periods, handle and position components, and work in controlled low-light conditions when conducting fluorescent MPI.
