What is the opportunity?

The Account Approval Officer reviews and approves new account documentation for RBC Direct Investing and InvestEase while ensuring compliance with Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) rules, KYC requirements, and internal policies.

Key responsibilities include

- Review & Approval: Evaluate new account applications and supporting documentation against regulatory and internal standards
- Compliance: Maintain adherence to CIRO regulations and company procedures for account opening and know-your-customer (KYC) processes
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with operations centers-of-excellence and business teams across RBC Direct Investing and InvestEase to investigate inquiries and resolve escalations
- Process Improvement: Advocate for business initiatives that streamline operations and enhance service delivery

What will you do?

- Conduct daily reviews of incoming applications to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Evaluate margin and options eligibility based on applicant profiles and account types
- Complete all daily approvals within mandated timeframes to support timely account activation
- Flag compliance issues to Business, Compliance, and Management; provide guidance to stakeholders on account documentation policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Mentor and guide operations teams responsible for account opening and KYC updates, ensuring consistency and compliance
- Support special initiatives as assigned

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves

- CIRO Supervisor Certification: Investment Dealer Supervisors Course or CIRO Supervisor Exam (current/valid credential required)
- CIRO Options Certification:
- Option A: Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course + Options Supervisors Course (current/valid credentials required), OR
- Option B:



CIRO Supervisor Exam + CIRO Derivatives Exam (current credentials required, or completion within 6 months of hire)

- University Degree: Bachelor's degree or equivalent post-secondary qualification
- Investment Industry Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in the investment industry
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to assess complex documentation, identify compliance gaps, and resolve operational issues independently

Nice-to-have:

- Knowledge of the systems used in Operations
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH)
- Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course
- Options Supervisors Course
- Knowledge of the securities industry and securities operations (QI/FATCA/CRS/AML, etc).
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Ability to organize and prioritize an unpredictable workload.
